Relax people, Rielly is a great pick for the Leafs to bolster their defensive depth. I know that most Leafs fans where hoping for Galchenyuk, Forsberg or even Grigorenko, but seriously, take a step back and try to look at the big picture and what this pick might mean.

Between drafting, signing free agents or making trades, what is Burke's strong suit?... TRADING! (please, save the a-hole Kessel comments)

With the abundance of d-men that the Leafs now have with the addition of Rielly and possibly even Schultz, you can bet that Burke will be addressing other areas of need via trades using a few of our d-men.

Let's just see how tomorrow and the week leading up to and beyond July 1st plays out before everyone starts losing their (frank)in' minds!

Sh!t, let's just be thankful that Burke didn't frivolously trade away or include the damn pick in a trade for Luongo!

Although Galchenyuk was the first guy I hoped for, Rielly is a real good, solid pick. No need to rush him like we did with Schenn though.

Exactly. But remember, the coach we have now is waaaaay better with D. He was a solid one himself.

Just wait if something happens and he does pull of a deal for Luongo. These guys complaining about needing a 1A goalie will now switch gears on how it was a terrible deal and how it handcuffs the Leafs for years to come.
- weirdoh

Exactly, We could have gotten Getzlaf and people would be saying "we mortgaged our future again!"

Were you expecting the leafs to win next year?

Why do fans seem to think a team will go from 5th last to cup champions in a year... Learn to be a little more patient

- mfreedman

Patient? Are you new to being a leafs fan? I've been patient for a long bloody time now.

Now that I have that off my chest I wouldn't expect anyone we picked tonight to have any significant impact until at least 2-3 seasons from now

Oh no we drafted and kept our first rounder!
This is a travesty. Its almost like we are trying to rebuild or something!

- Cfser

Besides the injury, Rielly was a safe pick. Grigorenko comes with the KHL risk and I'm honestly not 100% sure about Forsberg. Everyone wanted Galchenyuk, but unfortunately Montreal had a higher pick than Toronto... nothing Burke can really do about it.

Agreed. Now he CAN deal from a position of strength, as opposed to not wanting to deplete a thin stock. Not sure what to make of the Dushene rumor, but he would be downright sick

Burke should be fired all his free agent signings are busts still waiting for Kadri who looks like a bust, How many more seasons do we have to wait for the playoffs? Do you think Remier and Screivins are going to lead us there come on people wake up

I am so tired of burke and his bull crap this player is the player we would have picked 1st overall come on already, stop talking and do something we need a goalie and a1st line center why are always the ones talking but everone else is doing the tradeing shut up and get to work!
- bebsleafs

I read somewhere that Rielly is said to be exactly like Bobby Orr. I'm now happy with this fix. We have Reimer and Scrivens to figure out who is our number one goalie. We can attain a 1C now with the abundance and depth in our D. In case you haven't noticed we're in a rebuild. That means we are in the process of waiting for youngsters to develop. If you want to rush the rebuild and grab a quick fix so we can get into the playoffs and leave by the 2nd round all the power to you. Otherwise, stay loyal to the rebuild and shutup. Next year MacKinnon is our priority, he will be our 1C for the future.

If you don't like where the Leafs and GM Burke is going with the rebuild find another team to cheer for. Otherwise shutup and be patient.

how old are you?
are you on your deathbed? do the leafs have to win the cup this coming season?
were you alive in the 60s when they last won it. how many years have you been waiting?
would you rather have bobrovsky? you know, backup goalie only costs you three draft picks

Rielly is an awesome pick. Be happy that now we are actually gathering young studs instead of before when we would trade them away for ageing veterans just to get into the playoffs.

why is everyone butt hurt over Rielly? Solid young dman who can develop into a very good player. Solid pick by the leafs. Now we can move out a guy like Fransson/Gunnarson for example to fill in holes in other places

Schenn is 22, not 28. It takes a long time for a defenceman to get to his peak. Not to mention he was developed wrong by Wilson. 'Pack some pounds this year', 'Focus on scoring this year'. (frank)ing retarded Wilson doesn't even play a defensive game, in fact the opposite and that's why Schenn isn't where he's supposed to be.

Man o man, I like the pick but who the hell wrote he was like Bobby Orr???? What a tool. Must have been Simmons or Cox. All we need in goal is a steady vet to back up Reimer. I still like him. He had a poopty neck injury, and will bounce back fine next year. If Thomas is possible, that would be perfect.

Be patient ? Ive been very patient, But the facts are the facts this team needs something vetren leadership a vetern goalie and we need to get rid of dead weight all the free agents we have signed have to go they all stink, plus we need more size this team is not built for randy carlyle, so we all have to be patient and wait another 3 or 4 years for another rebuild

Depth in D...

you are correct we have the most offensively minded minus corp in the game.. I am sure everyone is looking for players like Liles who is minus for life.. or any other of the others who are so inept in their own zone.

I honestly can't remember. Search him up on google and you'll find some good stuff. I may have heard it on the radio too, I'm not sure. Sorry man.

I'd like Clemms or Biron to back Reimer up. Scrivens looked great in the AHL playoffs, want him there another season with a couple call-ups. Clemms/Reimer would land us another lottery pick which means - MacKinnon which means = Franchise 1C.
