Look at it this way. If that trade didn't go down we'd be stuck watching lame 28-30 picks the last 2 years.

OK, I've decided to wade in, and have not posted since shortly after 6PM. The pick was fine. It was probably the best pick out there, at 5. I had wished that they'd have found a way to move up in the draft, because we have too much defence now. Before some of you go off on that statement, you better look at how our roster is constructed. We have 9 NHL calibre defencemen, for 6 spots, 3 more up and comers in the minors or in junior, so where do we put them all? What happens if Schultz finds his way here? There is only one alternative and that is trades. Maybe we resurrect the Schenn for JVR trade? Since it seems to be a trend, to reunite brothers, then this sounds rational. If Bobby Ryan is indeed in play and Philly is the front runner, then who will they need to move to make this happen? Then again, why don't we try to land Ryan, maybe using Kessel as bait? Maybe Kessel for Nash is also an alternative? There are many teams starving for NHL caliber defencemen. We either get a 1st rounder or a comparitable player in the forward ranks.

The one thing that does trouble me, and I posted it earlier today, is the inability to get a first line center for this team. There are none available in the trade market and if there were, a bidding war would break out and you'd have to overpay. We aren't in a position to do that. We have none in our system, we didn't draft one today and if we wait until the next draft, we'll have to wait another 3 years to develop that centerman. This team cannot get better without plugging that gapping hole.

Face it Leafs fans, we are not a playoff team this coming year. Luongo, or no Luongo, it's not happening. Every team in our conference upgraded themselves today. Carolina is now a playoff viable team, with Jordan Staal. Montreal grabbed Galchenyuk and have the likes of Tinordi joining their ranks. The Islanders grabbed Vishnovsky and drafted Reinhart. Who did we gain on today? Forget Luongo, accept that we have to tank this season and hope for a top draft pick next year. Saving a miraculous trade from Burke, this team is destined for last in the east. Don't waste this coming season on an aging goalie, that won't get us into the playoffs and will only cost us draft position. Does Martin Gerber ring a bell?

If I'm not mistaken, Schultz becomes a UFA, as soon as the draft ends tomorrow. Once his draft position is re-established, the 4 years end and he can sign anywhere. I don't think that he even has to wait, for July 1st.

When you have a elite winger putting up 82 points with a poopty team you start to think about the future and less about the past. So what if we had Seguin? We would need an elite winger like we have now. We can draft a Seguin next year in MacKinnon. Why are you always complaining? It's really annoying.

I hate when leaf fans bring up kessel for nash, 1) kessel is younger 2) kessel played with no center 3) kessel got more pts than nash 4) kessel has a smaller cap hit 5) nash is a fag
