Saw the cup won in person at the Stadium 3 times, none were the 'Hawks of course. All 3 were painful, but '92 was my worst simply, by being so much older.
I can still remember game 3 in '92... came home and the wife had asked me if I as alright. I just sat at the kitchen table and started to cry like a baby.
They lost game 3, 1-0 on a double deflected shot. No way were they gonna match the '42 Leafs or '75 Isles. Just felt it.
Being a Cubs fan too (the ultimate pain) and now the 'Hawks...3 times at least to the final in my lifetime (born just after the last one in '61), I was wondering if it'd happen for either team while I still had a breath of air in my lungs.
Guess it's why 6/9/10 is so special. I visited my dad's grave a couple days later - after the parade to be exact - and said to him, "one down, one to go Dad".
Now if Theo/Jed & Co can finally lead the Cubs to the promised land, one day, one day in the not too distant future...! - blackhawk24

SB isn't getting canned anytime soon. Q gets axed first and he wasn't a Bowman hire. It'll be a minimum 3 years before any firing talk happens. Then all he has to do is point out during his tenure that he was saddled with the cap mess, a coach that was deficient, the salary dump trades netted good players like Morin and high draft picks, and lastly his drafts thus far have been some of the best in the league giving us a top 5 system loaded with prospects.
That buys probably another 2 years, so about 5 years all total. But once Q is gone the team will be playing elite hockey again. - scorerstouch
Wasn't Scotty the one who pushed for Q? |

Lost both 71 and 73 to the Habs. 71 was excruciating. Golden Jet was still there. Led series 2-0 and 3-2. Led game 7, 2-0. Dryden was a post away from being down 3-0, then Lemaire ... cuz the old, old man (Arthur, not dollar-Bill) was too cheap to put in AC (think they finally put in the AC in 74 or 75). Yes, the Jacques Lemaire fog goal. I still feel for Tony-O. Just like Billy Buck in the 86 WS or Leon Durham in the 84 NLCS... the pain, oh the pain.
BTW, this next Wed is the 40th anniversary of the Golden Jet telling Arthur Wirtz & Co to go take a hike. - blackhawk24
I was at the 92' finals when the Pens won the Cup at the stadium. I was sad to see the Hawks lose on home ice but it was pretty cool to see the ceremony. I remember how respectful the crowd was to the Pens no booing and polite applause. Class crowd. |

Me too. I think Hammer probably moves today but if the Hawks are going to get active, I really think it will be right before and on the 1st. Anyone else shocked about the PIT moves last night? Now there's a GM who's getting it done and could pose a serious threat to our potentially acquiring Suter and/or Parise and/or Nash... |

I was a bit surprised by the Staal move. I didn't think Shero was going to let him go that easily.
In the end, Staal ended up in the one place that has the odds on shot of re-signing him. I think Pittsburgh got a decent return. |

I think they are really going for Parise to give Crosby a big time winger to play alongside. |

For a guy that was going to walk in a year, Pittsburgh did incredibly well in that trade. Give them credit for using the Rangers to get Carolina to up the price. I'm sure the rangers were interested in him but I don't think Pittsburgh had any intentions of trading him within the division. |

I think Parise would be a good fit with PIT but I thought he wanted to head out west or to Minn. Was PIT one of the cities rumored in the Suter sweepstakes? As split as people on these boards are about acquiring him, he's the big free agency player I'd like to get plus he seems more likely to land in Chicago than Parise or Nash. |

If the reports are true that he wants to stay in the Midwest then I can't see Suter in Pittsburgh. Things can change but I don't see it. I've heard plenty of possibilities for parise including Pittsburgh, Colorado, minnesota and Detroit.
I think Suter is what they need. He's a more well rounded brim Campbell. Sound defensively and good offensively who can eat minutes and play in all situations. That will indirectly impact guys like Keith and leddy as it takes pressure off them by simply reducing their minutes. |

I wouldn't doubt it...but some of that cap relief is going to go towards Crosby's next contract...I wouldn't doubt his next cap hit will be a little more than his 8.7...But yeah, the Pens are going after someone...And the way I look at it, if they could unload Michalek and his 4mil cap hit,the Hawks should have no problem unloading Hammer if they want to...And then they can bury Monty in the AHL if they want to..Right now, the position the Hawks are in has me very optimistic, and it does take 2 to tango however if they are aggressive enough, I feel they can make a few moves that can make them a real contender again |

Agree. The return was fantastic considering the situation. |

Crosby is a free agent next summer and malkin and Letang the summer after that so they need cap space to extend these guys. |

+1
No doubt about it, it's going to be a big contract but the trickle down effect he would have on the rest of the dcorps is worth it IMO.

Which has been reported to possibly happen, if they can't (they wont) find any takers.

They were aggressive, won't after the deal, didn't wait to see what would happen, used the Rangers - all of the things I'm not sure Bowman can be and do. |
