The Cup team is dead. If trading Kane and #4 nets you Nash you do it. Nash is a bad ass power forward and a beast from the circles down, a true finisher.

Kane/Hammer for Nash is too sweet, there'd be more to it imo. Kane, Hammer, and Frolik for Nash, Methot, and Dorsett sounds about right.

Probably right on the $. Just trying to think of some plan B options after the inevitable failure to land a big fish.

are you saying you don't have confidence in the General Manager of THE Chicago Blackhawks?

I'd rather see Ott, Downie, Gagner and Garrison. More depth, less cost, fills all the holes.

Deal Hammer, Stalberg, Frolik and some of da kids.

Although Pierre Lebrun nixed any talks of the Blackhawks shopping Kane yesterday and said he's not going anywhere. I, too, have heard something with CBJ and BUF as a second possible dance partner.

Not sure Nash is what we need. Kane has outscored Nash by a fair margin since Patrick has been in the league. Nash, big power forward, yada yada yada. He hasn't show me he's worth his salary. Sure, quality team mates make a difference but I'm not sold...

For me, if they want to trade Kane (and I don't want them to), the Sabres have the pieces we would want/need..

Will be just like the trade deadline all this hype leading up to it and very little happening with exception of draft picks being moved around. Most teams will wait until free agency starts to address their needs and make trades as the dominos start to fall. Bowman doesn't have the STONES to make a major deal...... NO way Hawks move Kane for Nash and take on another HOSSA like contract.
- DeepThreat

Hossa like? Not even close. Nash's cap hit is $2.5M more. Hossa WILL retire LONG before that contract expires. And that was my feeling before that @sshole Torres leveled him. That's why the league was looking at his deal: $1M a year for the last 4 years of a 12-year contract...

It's all about the cap hit. Even at $70.3M and a top-heavy team like the 'Hawks, Nash's cap hit would account for 11.1% of the total. Compared to 9.0% for Kane and 7.5% for Hossa.

Until Bowman can make some moves that will improve the team, I don't have confidence in him.

Call me a fool, but I will have optimism until proven otherwise. The way I see it is I will give Mr. Bowman a chance to wow me. After all, a lot of people were praising his FA buys last season so who really knows until they raise a cup or don't.

youre kidding right? kane has played along at least 1 of patrick sharp, marian hossa, or jonathan toews his whole career.

in his entire career Nashs best linemate was derrick brassard, antoine vermette, rj umberger, huselius, or zherdev

kane has been on lines with 2 future HOF's in hossa and toews

Nash is lucky if he ever gets an all star on his team

Dreger claims that Kane is going nowhere, and the Hawks have not even talked to teams about moving #88. Maybe things have changed since this morning, but I just don't see the Hawks dealing him. At 23, I just don't see the Hawks dealing away somebody with his offensive ability. Kane is arguably the best passer in the NHL from the wing position. I would rather see the Hawks continue their search for a true second line center and added grit that can play the game.
- ChicagoHope

I got a PM last night that Dreger and Mckenzie (specifically) are wrong on this. I think it is kind of silly to assume (as some do) they have an encyclopedic and 100% accurate knowledge of what every team in the league is or isn't doing. Numerous sources (much closer to the Hawks) keep telling me Kane can be had for the right price. Although I do concede now might not be the best time strategically.

I will give you the trade front as i didn't not make my point correctly but my point was you will not see a ton of deals tonight at draft or tomorrow involving big time names as has been speculated.

They can like Nash all they want but Kane's contract is much more friendlier than Nash's and Kane on open market will get a much better return than NASH and one of the NHL's worst contracts. if trading Kane is what the Hawks have finally come too which I don't believe is the case at all, would rather take 2-3 players in a deal one involving a young goalie and a center over NASH

- DeepThreat

Until his next contract, when he and Toews will be making $7M+!!

Nash is due 7.8 mil for next 6 years, 47mil left
Kane is 6.3 mil for next 3 years, 19 mil left

you take Nash and that contract with Hossa on books next 7 years and 5.25 mil the Hawks will be not be able to do anything in free agency not to mention paying Toews in 3 years.

Nash is a great player but his contract is one of the worst in NHL right now besides that goalie for Canucks who I hate so much I will not say or type his name.

Kane for Nash with similar contract is a no brainer but when the difference is 29 MIL not a chance Hawks take that on...

- DeepThreat

You can't win the 2016 Cup next year - you can only win the 2013 Cup.

If Nash is the (or an important) difference getting you to next year's Cup, you do it (if you can).

Window of Opportunity is closing.

And LeBrun is someone I trust. I believe, based on all I've heard, that if Kane is being shopped, it is very quietly. And I also suspect now, right before FA is not the best time to move him for cap reasons.

And I also think you could see a Kane/Nash deal AFTER the Hawks work some other stuff out in FA.

See my post immediately above. i think right now, pre- 7/1 the Hawks want to dump salary, make their moves in FA, then I think you might see some action on Kane. Just a hunch.

So Nash has 50 or so goals more than Kane since Patrick's been in the league, great. Are goal scorers what we need? Is that what you're saying? You would think with the forwards we have there would be plenty of goals.

Also, not sure why everyone has thought of Kane as a sniper. He's ALWAYS been a playmaker over a sniper but with the ability to score goals, too.

The kid deserves kudos on his play last year especially learning the C position at the NHL level.

i gotta go with Ogi on this. at best, you can say that Bowman's moves have been low risk...but all have turned out to be low reward as well

Dorsett blows! We have Carcillo and Bollig and Im sure there is a player in Rockford that we can call up that is just as miserable as Derek Dorsett.

I think it's safe to say the Hawks are not the only team Howson is talking to, so a call to Stan from him is really neither earth shattering news, nor much of an indicator as to any move involving Nash, let alone Kane.

The interested teams are better off playing chicken with Howson and waiting him out to get more reasonable about what it would require another team to take on that albatross of a contract. Otherwise you overpay.

Seems a better strategy to overpay for the RIGHT role players to round out the holes in the roster (hello Dallas: Steve Ott?)

The solutions to the Hawks woes are not only resolvable by signing marquis players. The mad rush to pursue that strategy reeks of McD wanting a press conference buzz rather than what these decisions should be - what is best for the team.

- Return of the Roar

If I am Scott Howson, THE first person I call is Bowman because he is NOT going to get a better player in return for Nash, than Kane.
