So what does it mean that he fell to 18 if he was a definite top 8??? - coldsteelonice
I think it means that everyone took D-men |

And you are the expert? - mvp0207
While I personally won't nominate RotR as an expert, he makes a good point.
The 'Hawks got run into the next week the last 13 playoff games without a whole he!!uva lot there to answer the bell (sorry for the mixed metaphor). So it would stand to reason, the team gets bigger, both now via trades or FA signings and in the future with draft picks.
Question is how much bigger and tougher do the players have to be and will those players fit the system or if the system needs to be tweeked to fit the players. |

You don't draft for need. You take BPA. Especially when the player is ranked 5 overall with elite offensive talent and you're picking at 18. - Blackwater13
Best player available vs. drafting what you need vs. drafting for the future.
They all are different schools of thought, and also different ways of looking at what and where you're picking.
There's no finite way to do this. |

Agreed nobody on the board was going to solve an immediate need for the Hawks. Last year they past on Tomas Jurco and went with size and defense this year they went with a guy most prognosticators are saying as as much high end offensive tallent as anyone not named Nail in the draft. You had to take him. |

You draft for what you need down the road. - mvp0207
i agree with you but my frustration is i have NO faith in stan bowman being able to build a stanley cup winning team
the pittsburgh trade of stahl is a perfect example of stans ineptitude when he traded campbell and got nothing but salary back |

And their first pick was a dman who is not much bigger then Teuvo. Pouliot at 5'11" 183 and then Matta a big guy from Finland but whos only knock is he doesnt use his size well enough. Matta is a stick checker. Two REALLY good solid two way defensemen but but neither is big an nasty.
People just talking out of the wrong hole again. - mvp0207
Think a lot of people are butt hurt that the hawks didn't make a trade today. There is still plenty of time to make some moves, the hawks were not in play on really any of the guys moved anyway.
And at pick #18 wtf are you expecting? Dustin Brown/andrew ladd mold to contribute on the top line this year???? You take the high end talent in that position. I'm no stan bowman apologist but just saying he only drafts smurfs is a joke. Brandon Saad, mark mcneill, hayes bros. are not what you call smurfs. Stop whinning for the sake of whinning. You should blame dale tallon for drafting kane because he is a smurf, they should have picked karl alzner in that draft, he's got some size right? |

I'm not knocking Teuvanen, but I agree with what you're saying which is WHY I don't like the pick. They have TONS of forwards. They have no D or G prospects for 3-5 years down the road.
Now if they get Hackett, Bishop, or Lehner, then I'm happy, but if they don't trade for a goalie prospect, then I don't like it at all. - coldsteelonice
I agree ColdSteel. Really wanted Andrei Vasilevski. I guess we need to see what happens between now and July 1 |

Agreed but size and grit is easier and FASTER to solve then one of the most talented players in the draft. You have to take the talent if its there. - mvp0207
Guess we'll see how the rest of the draft shakes out. Any of that on TV? |

no doubt through FAgency and trades. Nobody the Hawks picked would have made a differnce at 18 right now. They would not have been ready for another 3 or 4 years. By then the Hawks might be huge.
Minus Girgensons I thought he could have made an immediate impact but he got drafted oh well. |

Not to be overly rude, but this is why the real hockey fan bases laugh at chicago fans. Such a lack of hockey knowledge its scary. - Bhawks35
Being careful not to respond in an overly rude fashion, how is it that my individual assessment of one decision made stands as a valid universal indictment of my entire knowledge of the sport?
