Huh?
Jordan Staal - 6'4 220
Brandon Sutter - 6'3 183
How is this getting big and nasty? - Wowo2282
And their first pick was a dman who is not much bigger then Teuvo. Pouliot at 5'11" 183 and then Matta a big guy from Finland but whos only knock is he doesnt use his size well enough. Matta is a stick checker. Two REALLY good solid two way defensemen but but neither is big an nasty.
People just talking out of the wrong hole again. |

NHL has changed - in the last year even. The best teams are BIGGER. This is the wrong direction.
Quite frankly, I really don't give a crap what the other "experts" around here think. At some point, things are so obvious - like size - and how it relates to today's game.
At the end of the day, all that really matters this summer is that they add some size to the big club. And I am not holding my breath on that one either. - Return of the Roar
You're the kind of guy that would have wanted to take Wilson at 5 if we had that pick.
This was by far the best pick of the draft. By Far. The only one close is the forsberg pick for the Caps. Yet, youre still complaining. Just wow.

On Teuvo Teravainen...
Ok, I am NOT the prospect guy on hockeybuzz. Truth be told, in my opinion, we have the #1 site on the internet for prospects. the work Brian Huddle, Eric Smith, Adam French, Julie Robenhymer, and the rest of the writers are doing this season getting you ready for the draft on Friday is PHENOMENAL.
However, I do have a scoop on Teuvo Teravainen.
While he is ranked all over the map, I am hearing from several teams that he is quite likely to 5 and will definitely go top 10 in the draft. He is constantly compared to Claude Giroux for his vision and playmaking abilities.
One scout, "The kid is a flat out star. He is a can't miss...even above the Russians in our book."
Another scout told me not since Saku Koivu has a Finnish player come into the NHL with such a high promise. I remember Koivu drawing Larionov comparisons...
Anaheim, Montreal, Carolina are possibilities....Edmonton is trying to get another top 10 pick to draft him....and don't be surprised if a team were to move up as well...Philly and Boston really like Teuvo as well...
"He won't stick around nearly as long as people are thinking," a western source informed me again today, "Top 8 definitely."

From Adam Jahns tweet and own of the most important things of the night...Take note..............
Joel Quenneville on Marian Hossa:"“He’s much better. He’s able to progress to where he’s doing stuff. But he had a tough, tough time." - Al
That appears to me that he "had" meaning past tense. Honestly, anything Q says, is garbage anyway. |

From what I gather, JJ seems to think this Teravainen kid is alright. I know JJ values Eric Smith. Thanks for the info.

You don't draft for need. You take BPA. Especially when the player is ranked 5 overall with elite offensive talent and you're picking at 18. |

Agreed but size and grit is easier and FASTER to solve then one of the most talented players in the draft. You have to take the talent if its there. |

I'm not knocking Teuvanen, but I agree with what you're saying which is WHY I don't like the pick. They have TONS of forwards. They have no D or G prospects for 3-5 years down the road.
Now if they get Hackett, Bishop, or Lehner, then I'm happy, but if they don't trade for a goalie prospect, then I don't like it at all. |

It may be the needs of the teams picking ahead of us, the copy cats trying to build in the likeness of LA and putting an emphasis on size. Who knows. But, if he is anything comparable to the players mentioned, we may have a steal as Kaner said.
