Heres the big thing Kids the team getting Staal and giving up a ton to get him had to be sure they are going to have him for more then a year then lose him in free agency. Eric (HIS BROTHER) being in carolina was the lynchpin in this deal as Car has a pretty good idea he will sign an extension with them. Hawks NOR bowman had this luxury.
