It seems like the goalies have far more staying power than forwards/dmen. Bobrovsky, Bryzgalov, Khabibulin, Nabokov, Varlamov all legit NHL goaltenders. Can't name off the top of my head anyone that has had attitude problems unless I'm forgetting someone?
- Midnightmarty

Don't forget the goaltending legend Tretiak was our goalie coach for over a decade, still might be associated with the organization.

You ever watch any Blue Jackets games? Can't say I blame Nash for losing his motivation to play there.

I have respect for anyone that played in Columbus for a decade. That's commitment

One of two courses need to be taken...

Trade Stalberg now for a need...OR

Play him like a top six forward and get ready to resign with a big raise sooner than later if he does well.

- Al

I prefer the first. If he's on LW with Toews instead of a bruiser it'll be less than a month and Toews will be in the dark room again.

Unfortunately, a purely non-fictional story.
- Bhawks35

Let's say at your job you are the best, most capable person working your department. Upper management gives you projects and a team to work on them with, only this team is filled with people nowhere near qualified to complete the quality work that you and everyone else expects. Now lets say your immediate superior kept getting fired and replaced, all while upper management does next to nothing to provide a better group of people around you. Now is your work going to be stellar everyday even if you know the projects are going nowhere and there is an obvious lack of intelligence/dedication surrounding you. Now take that person and transfer him to a new company that is run well, has stellar employees, and the chance to make an actual difference. Your telling me your effort level wouldn't change? It wouldn't improve? Maybe thats why Nash plays so well for Canada, because it has a chance to mean something. I think the story you spun is fictional and that you are wrong in your assessment of Nash and what he would bring to the hawks.

All that said there is like a 1% chance he comes here so its probably all for naught.

Completely agree.

With the right coaching he'd be great imo. Reminds me so much of Voracek the first half the season in Philly. Big and fast, doesn't use size well and can't hit an open net. Voracek was such a waste of a roster spot back then...... the second half of the season was a totally different story.

I have a hard time looking at Vic as a disappointment as many seem to. (Not saying you are Al) I am a tad confounded why so many knock a guy, who makes obvious progress year to year.

I know there are legit concerns about aspects of his game, but how can a coach not find a way to utilize his skill set? How can you not be encouraged by progress?

From Eddie O on down, so many knock this guy. If he had done this in 08-09 or before, would we not be excited about a player growing. This points to my problem/contention with culture of team. That is 5 years ago so many guys cut their teeth and were given the rope to do so. After cup, the microscope is on these guys and perfection is expected. It seems that so much blame goes to these guys as opposed to expecting more from the core.

Anyhow, I can see Stalberg playing with Zetterberg in 2 years in Detroit just lighting it up. Meanwhile most nostalgic hawk fans will still be stuck on...why did we trade Buff and Ladd.

Not saying you don't trade the guy, as the team needs to improve, but this guy does not deserve half the crap he gets, but rather deserves more respect.

So now superstars get a pass for being lazy? I agree CBJ has been brutal his entire career. But when in 9 years did he ever show a consistent compete level?

On the other side of the spectrum, could you ever envision toews taking games off even if the hawks were in dead last for the next 5years?

Remember the two teams written about with cap space and trade chips who need defense....

Okay, this a what would you do moment:

What if Lunogo (as unlikely as it is) became a Blackhawk?

I know it's perverse but Ek keeps bringing it up and I figure it would be a fun topic.

Could be wrong, but I have a feeling any further trades today will be announced at the draft itself. As they should be! #NHLDraft

If this is true, the suspense will kill me.

It is perverse. In the words of Fat Tony Amonte, "take a lap" for suggesting it!

False statement

He is a very good two way forward, kills penalties but has played on garbage teams...

Check out the year they made the playoffs for example or the Olympics.

Well it would be a cute story and more important it would also mean the Hawks have busted the Detroit model into pieces.

Except for the goalie part, how would that be any different than signing any OTHER albatross (Nash, Parise)?

Excellent post.

So many learned hockey observers on this site just want to get rid of players - railroad them out of town wuth no thought to what they could acquire in return or who would replace the player. Just wrap Stalberg up in newspaper like greasy fish and chips and throw him in the garbage.

I can guarantee you if Ken Holland and Mike Babcock got their hands on Stalberg they would make this guy a player who would make the Hawks regret disposing of him like kitchen waste.

Not saying he couldn't be used to acquire a player they need for another position, buy just giving up on him is ridiculous.

Meanwhile, no talent stiffs like Bollig and Mayers seem to warm the hearts of the Hawk faithful.

He's always competed, I was out in Columbus the past four years and saw a lot of Jacket's games. When Nash wasn't motivated he would take stupid penalties and try to agitate opposing players, never did I see him quit on his team or become uninvolved in the game. There's a reason he has had the C for so long.

As for Toews, completely different scenario. One playoff appearance over the past decade with no wins versus multiple playoff appearances and a cup. Rollpards summed it up pretty nicely I suggest you look over his post. Nash would look great in a Hawks sweater

Not me. I like Vic. Just not on this team. Because they have enough speed, and will not coach him to play more physical.

He also happens to be the only trade chip that has obvious upside with a low cap hit.

Got a question?

I'm thinking of subscribing to NHL Gamecenter for next season (if there is one). I live outside of the Chicago market, and I always get (frank)ed whenever WGN is airing games. Is NHL Gamecenter a solution for that?

I've got it at my Florida home and watch all of the hawk games when im there
