There has to be ZERO legs to this rumor

Not to truly play Devil's Advocate, but I do recall JJ stating that he heard rumors earlier in the off season that the Hawks might consider a Luongo trade ...

Tim Thomas has waived NMC. Would have expired on July 1. Teams near cap floor have inquired. -- Fluto Shinzawa (@GlobeFluto)

For one season should the hawks make a move here?

But how much value would he really have? The hawks really need 2 to 3 younger forwards with some grit and skill. It would be nice if hammer nets us a Foligno. Smith is good, too, but more upside with Foligno. Only the top 4 have enough value to bring back a couple young gritty forwards. Toews isn't going anywhere and either is Hossa. It should be Kane
- tomcat24

A 20 goal scorer with a small contract who didn't play PP minutes...

Stalberg has quite a bit of value...Not as much as if there 2 yrs left on his deal.

You can find 3rd-4th line players with grit...Just have to make the correct choices.

I really think that GMs say, let's leak this info to Eklund so no one knows what we are doing. Tell Eklund we're interested in trading for Dustin Penner's rights.

What's the point of trading for a goalie who is not playing next year?

If he's waiving his NTC, you can bet he intends on playing. Just a hunch.

Maybe the economy is a lot better in Chicago than it is in Boston.

Well before we go in the wrong direction...

There are reasons to avoid Russain players and many franchises do...Unless the right connections are in place, especially now, they stay in Russia.

So more is involved and there is more uncertainty, in an already uncertain game.

It's not by chance you haven't seen many Russians here since then.

- Al

I totally agree. I know we have Shalunov on the roster and we did have Makarov but he was a bit of a hard head and only wanted to come over and play in the NHL but not spend anytime developing and learning the NA style of play.

Shalunov looks like he had quite the year in KHL2 wonder if he would come over and develop his game here now.

As far as Nasilevski goes I hope we do take him over Subban. Subban is too much of a project and it appears we need someone who could step in almost immediately should Craw continue to under perform.

The team should do more to develop connections in Russia because their is a plethora of talent there and it could or would be advantageous to the organization to cultivate and nurture relationships as well as talent.

Could be just helping Bruins get rid of his cap hit at no cost to a team he is traded to.

I won't begin to defend Bowman for his tenure as GM, but it is hard to hold the Ladd, Buff, or Versteeg trades against him when he was completely hamstrung by how much salary he could take back. Campbell was also a salary dump, pure and simple.
- QStache

He panicked on the offersheet for Hammer and overpaid setting everything in motion. He moved Ladd too soon...you could say he was a babe in the woods at that point, but McD put him in there so its on the resume.

As far as getting rid of Campbell how'd that work out for the defense this season?

I can tell you Vishnevskiy and his piss poor attitude had some influence in Makarov going back home to mother Russia.

I feel like all the updates that Eklund gives are from radio show callers who drum up fantasy trades. 'Dahh, i think da bears should trade Forte for Ditka, a mini Ditka and Suhey' (e7).

Isn't it hat if he doesn't play:

Bruins still take his cap hit but don't pay him.

Bruins could trade him to a team below the floor.

Not the new team takes the cap hit to get to (or closer to) the floor again without having to actually pay him.

I don't think that status is changed.

He does have some value for a team trying to hit the cap floor since he's a $5MM hit for "only" $3MM out the door.

I am so tired of reading on here that fans want Nash. Has anyone ever watched Nash outside of the few games a season he plays the hawks? I would have a hard time accepting anyone wanting this guy if they have.

He is one of the laziest players in the league. He floats just about every other shift. The guy has the potential to be a 90+ player year in and year out. He is a 65pt player. Look at how dominant he is in international play. He's a star with team Canada on every level hes played. Why? bc when he wants it, he could dominate every game. There are very few players in the league that have close to his package of size and skill. Yet, for his entire NHL career he hasn't put in the effort to be that player over an 82 game season.

He is another Alexei Kovalev. A huge underachiever. I dont want to hear the excuse that he was on CBJ his whole career and didn't have anyone to play with. He has ELITE talent. He shouldn't need anyone to help get him points. He should be making everyone else around him better. Not the other way around. The other excuse is once he changes scenery and plays on a contender he will turn his game around. He has been in the NHL for almost a ten years now. Should a superstar really need a decade to turn his game around? And what makes anyone think he will suddenly change after a decade? Isn't it entirely possible that he will continue to be the player he's been his whole career?

Everyone wants to trade Kane for this guy. I am not a Kane fan at all. I am all for trading him if it meant getting a guy like perry, parise etc. NOT for Nash. You don't want to trade away Kane who is lazy, one dimensional, floats, for a guy with the same flaws. Kane on a down year still outproduces Nash on an avg year. The same fans here hoping for nash would be the same fans who quickly want to run him out of town for being an overpaid, lazy superstar when he undoubtedly fails to meet expectation.

On the other note, whatever the hawks need to do to get parise here they should. Parise is another Toews and Hossa. He can dominate a game without ever touching the puck. Unlike a Kane, who needs to be on the scoresheet to have an impact.

I have a hard time looking at Vic as a disappointment as many seem to. (Not saying you are Al) I am a tad confounded why so many knock a guy, who makes obvious progress year to year.

I know there are legit concerns about aspects of his game, but how can a coach not find a way to utilize his skill set? How can you not be encouraged by progress?

From Eddie O on down, so many knock this guy. If he had done this in 08-09 or before, would we not be excited about a player growing. This points to my problem/contention with culture of team. That is 5 years ago so many guys cut their teeth and were given the rope to do so. After cup, the microscope is on these guys and perfection is expected. It seems that so much blame goes to these guys as opposed to expecting more from the core.

Anyhow, I can see Stalberg playing with Zetterberg in 2 years in Detroit just lighting it up. Meanwhile most nostalgic hawk fans will still be stuck on...why did we trade Buff and Ladd.

Not saying you don't trade the guy, as the team needs to improve, but this guy does not deserve half the crap he gets, but rather deserves more respect.
