If Burke wants Lu, he better bring his best offer. I think Gillis is done messing around.

Gillis is done messing around? So he's ready to bend over to get rid of that contract?

"but it is clear that if Toronto comes back from Pittsburgh with only Filip Forsberg or Teuvo Teravainen added to the fold, that this weekend will be labeled as a failure"

That's why Toronto has so much trouble building, because management has no patience! With Yak, Galy, Murray, Grigs, Forsberg, Rielly available you're getting a very good young prospect...why is that a failure? Building a contender takes time.

- LeftCoaster

Perhaps you should attribute the 'quote' to who it came from. Kypreos is not part of the Leaf management team, nor is Cox, Berger, Simmons, remainder of the toronto-based media etc - while they all would "love" to be... and I'm sure secretly believe they could do a better job.

This is their means of trying to make themselves relevant.

Let's see, go to draft, draft good young player in 5th spot overall, and several other young players, etc... definitely sounds like a lost day to me.

A lost day would be trading more than Komisarek + 3rd to Vancouver for a 33 year old goal tender with a large long term contract, who's disgruntled at being displaced as the #1 goalie in Vancouver.... or by comparison acquiring Scott Gomez from the Rangers ala Montreal a couple of years back. That would be a wasted day.

I really don't know how that is going to go, you have two GM's posturing on what they want, I just don't know...

which goalie will nj pick?
- XxHarounXx

I don't think they'll pick one of the big 3. I'd like to see Bernier end up in NJ, think he'd excel there.

burke wont pay anything of note for a ten year contract

he already stated hw will go with reimer and scrivens

and the last time the leafs AHL goalie took the baby leafs to the AHL final he got brought up the next season, and got the leafs within one win of the cup final.. which is something to consider

we dont need lu.. and i am not calling him bad, he's a great goalie.. but it doesnt make sense for the leafs.. they just arent far enough into their rebuild to bring a guy like Lu in.. by the time the rest of the team is at that level.. lu will be on the decline big time

Lu would represent to me the typical impatience in toronto.. making moves to make the post season at the expense of the future.. i've seen this cycle a few times now

Hmm...Gillis is done messing around, while Burke continues to show lukewarm interest. Who's feeling the pressure here?

oh good.. simmons wrote an article on burke

lets see what the tone of this article is ..........

- Dozzer

I know we've discussed Burke ad nauseum, but why should the tone be positive?

Burke already gave his best offer, and if Gillis didn't like it then he can keep Loungo for 10 years.

If we come out of this day having drafted some good young players instead of trading away picks I don't see how anyone could be disappointed.

Whoever they draft will be disappointed.

because the teams that have long term success have stayed in the basement for 7-10 years

there is no fast way to do it right.. it doesnt happen

its a poopty ride.. but its one we, as leaf fans, need to go through

So adding Gardiner and Lupul for Beauchemin was really not worth the effort?

Colborne and a first for Kaberle?

I don't understand your comments at all.

- Rang

its OBVIOUS to everyone that those deals worth not worth doing (for the teams the Leafs dealt with)

Geez... why would BB want to acquire "those" players.

what makes you think he's so desperate to get rid of that contract? i don't get it. the cap hit is not crippling. Gillis can wait as long as he wants to make a deal, as he should. he can very easily bring Luongo into camp as the backup even with Schneider being given a raise. and it's not like Schneider will get that much money anyway. and if Luongo holds out for a trade, big deal. still a better option than adding a useless piece like Komisarek or Connolly. you seem to think that Gillis has no options but to dump him to the Leafs, and you're just wrong.
