I was initially....hard not to be. But I don't know much about this Reilly kid...let's give him a chance.

Why is it hard not to be?

Because the ISS had him at #8, and we picked him at #5? A swing of 3 spots in a wide-open draft? That's enough to cast judgment on the pick before anybody has played a single NHL game?

Congrats Burke, another potential number 1 centre you missed out on.

You don't think the Leafs could've offered more than that?

Why would they?

Staal wouldnt resign with anyone unless it was Carolina.

It doesn't matter what they could have offered. Staal wanted to goto Carolina.

Carolina should trade for Mark Staal and complete the set.

Wonder how a Staal-Staal punch down the middle will work... don't know if J.Staal is a true top sixer, especially playing on a weak team. His offensive stats won't be as easy to come by with no Malkin, Neal, Crosby, etc.

And good that he did, clearly jordan wanted to play with his brother, and is a UFA next year.

I know who he is, he is a good young defense man.

Even if we ignore the injury and he ends up being a top 4 D is 2 or 3 years it is still a bad pick. Any defense man except for Murray would have been a bad pick.

Burke was talking to Shero earlier, and jordans in the building... Seems likely.

Only if Staal can become something else. Otherise it's a lark. Sutter is easily as strong defensively.

The slaps keep coming.. I wonder what it would be like to have a GM.. that other teams like... because clearly soft deals are walking.. around us.

I don't think many fans would've complained if we gave the 5th up for Staal.. a true big center

I'm not casting judgement at all....

I just think that given such a wide open draft, probably would've been better to draft based on need rather than talent.
