YES.. build through higher draft picks and development.. dont take on long contracts.. try on short term contracts that can be jettisoned to make room for your own prospects as they become ready
- Dozzer

but THATS my point...do you REALLY think we end up less than say 11/10th place with this roster without Luongo??

I say no...worst we do I bet is around 10th place...not really bad enough for a significant pick...not good enough for playoffs...what good is that?

Many would argue Luongo eats at that buffet, too.
- Atomic Wedgie

Luongo earns his money. He's a great player. Comparing the relative value of Komisarek and Luongo on the ice is just not even close.

Honestly, I'd be more than happy with keeping Luongo. He was one of the Canucks best players last year. He is also only a year removed for a Vezina nomination and a finals appearance. I think if Gillis can get a boatload for Schneider, I'd trade him instead.

I dont know why the (frank)er dosnt just trade Schneider for a nice juicy package and win the cup ths year/next with upgrades he can make with said package....am I missing something!?

I cant get over the fact that Schneider only has 68 games experience, 8 playoff games TOTAL....why is he the CLEAR cut choice!?

(vancouver guy?)

- noename09

schneider even unsigned would take back a very nice return...

here is what i dont like

if vancouvers time to win is NOW, and they hav3e the roster to do it, but dont think luongo is the guy to backstop them.. why does everyone think luongo could take a team like toronto to the post season..

none of these arguments add up... at all.

so lets keep losing for another 3 years??....I dont get it?....until we are cup worthy, we shouldnt try??

- noename09

player development and patience, if losing is the end result for another season or two while we rebuild then so be it.

.......I notice you don't get it.

It is a big no no and although it was a joke, it was in poor taste but the poster knows now.

Dozzer was quick to act, great job by him.

tell me, our current roster has the ability to get anywhere from 11th-7th place...likely closer to 10th, imo...what good does a 10th spot finish do for this club exactly?

we are NOT bad enough of a team to get another good pick, but we are currently not good enough for the playoffs...so...do nothing and waste away another year!?

Ya I agree..that theory makes absolutely no sense.
The leafs need to build and foster a winning environment...not this losing crap every year.....nothing is gained from it.

obtaining Luongo means you are ....

#3 we aren't going to be a cup contender for another 5 years under best case scenario so why even bother? Unless the goal is to just squeak into the playoffs and pull off a miracle.

- Sheppy99

Why can't the goal be to have the best goalie possible and try to win games ?

Ok...let me put it this way then....IF we can ACTUALLY guarantee a finish lower than 12th this year, I dont want Luongo either.

However, as expressed....I find it very hard to believe this current roster falls lower than 11th, or higher than 9th. I can just picture the 10th place finish now, with no upgrades.

Yeah, it'll be nice to see how it pans out. Of course, if Gillis can't find the right deal, it'll just be another kick in the nuts.

I'm happy with either goalie, but which ever one we move needs to improve the team. Moving Lu's cap hit for Komi's is a major step back. We had the best tandem in the league last year. Whoever the new backup is can't be as good as Schneider was from this season. So we need the return to be an upgrade in some area, not just a dump.

Because the goal is to win the Stanley Cup, not win some games and get into the playoffs!

But you have to crawl before you can walk.
you must win games and get into the playoffs to have a shot at winning the cup.

because the goal isn't to just squeak into the playoffs. The goal is to win a stanley cup and when you are ruining the development of your young prospect goalies in the process, that is a big risk to take.

What if Scrivens or Reimer are top goalies in the league in 5 years after given a chance to develop? By than our team should be ready to compete realistically for something more than a 7th or 8th place finish.

INstead we have a team that's ready to compete, a goalie who's ready to retire and a prospect in Reimer who never developed

This is CLEARLY the better option!!....I think the Nucks screwed themselves though cause now Luongo wants out...he may not even want to stay if Schneider gets moved...

1)we ARE bad enough.
2)next season is already a lost cause, nothing is going to save it when bozak is your number one centre, phaneuf your number one d and reimer your starter.
3)2013/2014 start fresh without the burden of ridiculous veteran contracts, bring in the youth.

That is the stupidity of a 10 year contract. Ask Philly, because they're on the same hook, but it'll take either a buyout or giving up of assets, to get rid of such a ball and shackles around the ankles of the franchise. It's insanity that haunts a franchise long term.
