Lu isnt the problem
my opinion is that the leafs are further away to being competitive than everyone seems to think
Lu is a great goalie.. who wont be had for crap players.. but he's not a miracle worker.. he still needs a decent team in front of him - Dozzer
I absolutely agree....they are at least 3 years from playing competitive hockey. And that's if we are lucky enough for our prospects pan out.
By then, Luongo is on his last legs with 7 years to go......
I dunno.... |

I meant to say...our current roster will be strong, and just barely miss the playoffs...no big MELTDOWN like last year. Damn, I really need to watch what I type - noename09

Canucs fans have a huge hate on for Kadri... Probably because people said he was better than the formerly elite hodgson. - Feeling Glucky?
I don't hate him, he's just not what the Canucks need. We've got all the undersized top 6 forwards we need. We need beefier players.
Komisarek has negative value as a player that is not earning his contract.
The 2 things combined make trading Lu for picks a better option than the Komi, Kadri, mid-late pick option. For other teams, that may not be the case, but in Vancouver, it certainly is. |

Maybe. The Flames were very close last year. Personally, I think Lu is the better goalie and that Toronto's goaltending was their Achilles' heel. A major upgrade in net should get them to the dance.
The thing is, Burke is not going to let the team finish last. He's been trying to rebuild on the fly. He's invested assets in making the team better now. It's all for nothing is he tries to bottom out now. - micah555
nope....they'll still suck. |

I agree...but dont expect Burke to give up much more than what I suggested...wouldnt be worth it for us.
See...Dozzer ((IS)) right, we are far away from NEEDING a guy like Luongo...but the point of view im trying to express is that WHY NOT have someone like him for CHEAP...he will do BETTER than he will do BAD....I dont get it....what HARM does it bring to the team to have him....it could very well get us some playoffs and get us out of a losing slump...WHY NOT??
Contract aside, because that conversation is moot, no one here can predict if he plays 2 years or 15 more years. We can say likely in the middle of his contract at 5-6 years...but again we would just be making assumptions so that part of the discussion shouldnt hold much.... |

obtaining Luongo means you are
#1 Giving up on scrivens completely as he's gone out the door
#2 losing out on any chance of Reimer developing properly. No goalie is going to develop playing 15-20 games a year. By the time Luongo retires, Reimer will be a 30 year old back up that never blossomed because he was under the shadow of Luongo.
#3 we aren't going to be a cup contender for another 5 years under best case scenario so why even bother? Unless the goal is to just squeak into the playoffs and pull off a miracle.
That's my issues with acquiring Luongo. If it can be done on the cheap......... I could live with it somewhat I guess |

problem is.. there really is no market for him
thats why i keep saying gillis wont trade him.. he wont get what he needs or wants and he wont take garbage
he would be far better off to run with both guys in the upcoming season, wait til an injury creates a need and a desperate GM.. and make the move then |

YES.. build through higher draft picks and development.. dont take on long contracts.. try on short term contracts that can be jettisoned to make room for your own prospects as they become ready |

I dont know why the (frank)er dosnt just trade Schneider for a nice juicy package and win the cup ths year/next with upgrades he can make with said package....am I missing something!?
I cant get over the fact that Schneider only has 68 games experience, 8 playoff games TOTAL....why is he the CLEAR cut choice!?

yeah thats how i see it to.. by the time we are competitive luongo will be 36 or 37 years old
the move just doesnt make sense.. the only thing it does is increase the odds of making the post season by a small margin
carlyle is coach now.. and we have no size in the top 6.. luongo can stop pucks all day long, but as long as we dont have forwards who can play in carlyle's system effectively then stopping pucks left right and centre is moot anyways.
and by size i mean grit.. small guys can play big too |

They signed him for 3 years, in hopes that he develops into a true #1. Bringing in a Mason or a Biron or a Johnson to back him up would show that they have the confidence for him to do so.
A Luongo trade says that as long as Reimer's a Leaf, he's a back up. - AnnGee44
No matter who he plays for.....he's a back up. |
