Anyone know if the draft is on the radio tonight? 1050 or 590?? ...will be on route to the cottage when the Leafs aquire Luongo, Nash Parise, Staal and god him self.......... - billyberg10
Anyone hear the update that Brian Burke says it's a good possibility that they take a D-Man with the 5th? Murray, Reilly, Dumba or Reinhart......

I call Bullsh!t on Burke. Why would we want to grab another defenceman, if we are already overloaded on the back end? If we are also in the race to grab Schultz, why do we need to grab another defenceman? No, it's all about finding the first line centre and failing that, another offensive threat. Goaltending is a distant second to offence.

you missed the point
do I personally think he will play out the contract? No
does Burke have the luxury to make the same assumption with 20million dollars of some other person's money on the line? also no.
burke HAS to approach the deal as if luongo intends to play for ten years, otherwise, he is doing a poor job.
I mean burke cant say to his bosses and the toronto fan base "oh dont worry, he will only play 6 years" and then turn around and tell gillis he wants a discount because lou is signed for ten years - Dozzer
Sorry, but how do you know this?
Burke has gone on record many, many times, proposing that teams should be allowed to assume some salary in trades.
To me, that indicates that MLSEL is perfectly happy flexing their wallet in deals.

once again the AHL is not a dumping ground for bad contracts.. (frank) sakes i give up
and for all of you who think lu is coming here for komi and connolly.. wow. yeah, cause gillis is an idiot. - Dozzer
Some of these bad contracts, may look good, on a one year deal for a team trying to fill a specific roll on a team. Maybe a team that has an up and coming centre, but won't be ready to take on the roll of a second line centre, this year. Connolly becomes an alternative, that helps that team get into a playoff spot. Once all of the teams that that lost out on a top end UFA, they may come sniffing around for players like Connolly, Lombardi, Armstrong and Komiserik. We don't need to get rid of all four, but two would be acceptable. It may gain us a second or third round pick, if there is a real deficit of NHL calibre players available, after free agent frenzy.
