Anyone hear the update that Brian Burke says it's a good possibility that they take a D-Man with the 5th? Murray, Reilly, Dumba or Reinhart...... - AnnGee44
Yeah, we talked about it early. Nobody's happy about it. |

Don't hate me for asking, but:
What do you think we could get for Scrivens?
My guess is the correct answer is:
Not as much as Leafs fans think. - Atomic Wedgie
It's not what you can get, but what the other team thinks that he's worth. It would all be in a package. If it were Columbus, you can bet that they're looking for a couple of NHL roster players, a prospect, maybe two and a draft pick. Scrivens can be viewed as a possibly NHL ready prospect that had a good run in the AHL playoffs. |

he retires in 6 years and we give him a special assignment job. Pay him 1.2 million per year......... get it?? - faceto27
you missed the point
do I personally think he will play out the contract? No
does Burke have the luxury to make the same assumption with 20million dollars of some other person's money on the line? also no.
burke HAS to approach the deal as if luongo intends to play for ten years, otherwise, he is doing a poor job.
I mean burke cant say to his bosses and the toronto fan base "oh dont worry, he will only play 6 years" and then turn around and tell gillis he wants a discount because lou is signed for ten years

"I firmly believe that if that Gillis is playing poker here with the league and he knows he has a pair of aces. I wonder if any of the 4 or 5 teams that are kicking tires will fold or go all in. If they won't today, it wouldn't surprise me to see Vancouver start the season with two number ones. And when those teams struggle at the start, then Gillis will have them by the balls and he will get what he wants."

If they get Schultz, the D stable will be a logjam. Lots of assets to use for trades maybe. Holzer is apparently ready for the jump too.... |

No you missed my point.
Lou's contract the last three years averages 1.2 million in actual salary. He would probably gladly retire for a front office job paying the same amount thus saving the Leafs the 5 million a year cap hit.
Get it now?? |

STOP IT
we've gone through this.. burke MUST approach any deal for Lou with the idea in mind that he will play out his contract..
as a fan you can make that leap.. as a GM with millions of dollars on the line.. you cannot. - Dozzer
No, you stop it.
MLSEL is more than happy to swallow $7 million over 4 years - heck, they just swallowed $7 million over 2 years with Jeff Finger.
If they can acquire an elite goaltender for no assets, they would gladly pay $7 million for the privilege.
