what makes you think he's so desperate to get rid of that contract? i don't get it. the cap hit is not crippling. Gillis can wait as long as he wants to make a deal, as he should. he can very easily bring Luongo into camp as the backup even with Schneider being given a raise. and it's not like Schneider will get that much money anyway. and if Luongo holds out for a trade, big deal. still a better option than adding a useless piece like Komisarek or Connolly. you seem to think that Gillis has no options but to dump him to the Leafs, and you're just wrong.
- DoubleDown

well... lets put this in context for you.

Would the Habs benefit by ridding themselves of Scott Gomez and the roster spot he occuppies? (Ignore CAP hit for the moment) Obvious answer - Yes. A younger, more energetic player would get more ice time.
Would having a less energetic, some would say lazy, indulged older player with a giant CAP hit relative to his contributions be negative to the club/locker room atmosphere? (can't ignore CAP hit here) Obvious answer - Yes.

Now in Gomez's case no one is going to take that contract off Montreal's hands without Montreal paying dearly for it. This is where Luongo's situation is somewhat different... Gomez's relatively short contract duration - Luongo LONG contract duration at his age. Gomez largely useless player without much(read any) upside. Luongo, some would argue (particularly Canuck fans) has tremendous value.

Its the combination of age, contract duration and what could be percieved as diminishing abilities that is driving the desire on VCRs part to move him, and its those same considerations that are making the few teams that might be interested wary about acquiring him.

Anyone know of a website that's doing a trade tracker text message update thingy?

I'm already signed up for the TSN regular text updates, and I figure that will update me on anything significant (Staal for Komi, etc.).

Gone Hollywood in December? then Take the Long Way Home in time for BB's trade freeze? Sounds Logical to me

I'm only going to write this one more time, and then anyone who makes further comments should be banned.

We will take Luongo if we don't have to give up a tangible part of our future.

Komi and D'Amigo for Luongo? Welcome to Toronto, BobbyLu.

Kadri and Gardiner for Luongo? Quit smoking BC Bud.

That is all.

- Atomic Wedgie

Thank you....

is my saying thank you a bannable offense?

Of course he would - that's a player's dream come true.

Become a UFA as early as you possibly can.

But from the Canucks' perspective, that's awwwwwwwfully dangerous.

- Atomic Wedgie

sure is.. but w/o question there will be a larger goalie market to sell Luongo to

also.. the nucks assistant GM has said they were listening to offers on either goalie and now they might keep Lu and move schneider.. but as of right now.. they're planning to move forward with both goalies

because the teams that have long term success have stayed in the basement for 7-10 years

there is no fast way to do it right.. it doesnt happen

its a poopty ride.. but its one we, as leaf fans, need to go through

- Dozzer

How is it that we've been out of the playoffs, in the basement as you term it, for eight years, with NOT ONE franchise player draft pick to show for it? Our management, my friend, has been shoddy for a decade. Not every team that sucks for long periods become successful. They, too, have had lousy managers. The examples are myriad.

Because he needs to re-sign Schnieder, who has indicated he has no interest in returning as BobbyLu's backup.

They need to lock down Schnieder to a long-term contract. He won't sign a long-term contract if he thinks Luongo is still in the stable.

Pretty simple, really.

where did Schneider get all this bargaining power people attribute to him?

If Burke wants Lu, he better bring his best offer. I think Gillis is done messing around.

I'd say the showing in the playoffs from Luongoal might have had something to do with that.

I like Frattin.

Bozak could be replaced by just about anyone.

- Atomic Wedgie

Appearantly not, how many times have we put another person in his spot with Kessel just to put Bozak back because of his better chemestry.

I understand where you are going with that comment... but its isn't exactly true.
Bozak could NOT be replaced by Connolly, Lombardi, Stajan, John Mitchell or by Jarret Stoll.

same place as Carey Price.

performance and handling by management... the moment VCR management picked Schneider over Luongo for those playoff games, the bargaining power shifted.

My point is that management, Burke included, have been totally, utterly, and completely unable to take any advantage of 8 years worth of bottom feeding due to utter incompetence regarding the draft. The record speaks for itself. It is ABYSMAL.

I cant wait for this day to be over so I dont have read anymore crap about the draft.
Burke will do nothing today except draft some eventually disappointing player in the 5th spot.
