This.

Mtl should draft 3rd, keep their picks and prospects and make a full rebuild. They have a few pieces already and will get some more in 2012 and 2013 if they do good at the draft table.

- deadpoulet

I don't mind parting with some prospects to land a big name player who can help but that proposal is too one sided when Adding Tinord and Pacioretty.

Howson spoke with the Hawks this morning, according to good source.

kane's not being shopped but if they can land Nash then it has to be something to consider.

Hjarlmasson and Kane for Nash?

poop, posted this and then just read the blog.

Is that's the offer that San Jose is throwing around then Howsen is an idiot for not accepting it.

Call me crazy but I would be hard pressed to part with Pavelski and a 1st let along throw in Clowe and Demers. I love Nash but he has never put up points in this league.

- willey101

Yeah and its a good trade both ways. I think San Jose expects to lose Clowe to free agency at the end of this season. Pavelski is good but can still disappear at times and Demers looks to be a solid 2nd line d-man. Throw in the 17th overall pick in a relatively weak draft (according to most scouts) and its a good trade both ways.

San Jose gets Nash to play RW on the top line with Marleau and Thornton. If that line did damage with Heatley, then watch what happens with Nash.

The only problem is their depth takes a hit. But, they still have Couture and Havlat on their 2nd line with Handzus centering the 3rd line.

San Jose needs to win now. I think Howson is skeptical because Pavelski is on a 2 year, and Clowe on a one year. They'll probably just walk away and in the end he'll only get Demers and the 17th overall. If that happens, 3 years down the road that wouldn't look like a very good trade for Howson unless he parlays Pavelski and Clowe heavily at the trade deadlines

The cap is going up at 70 mil, I'm pretty sure Nash's contract will be the new norm for all franchise players.
- Alexzanki

Sure, but I'm not sold that Nash is a franchise player. He is a very good winger, he plays very well with top talent (like the Olympics) but I am not convinced he makes the players around him better. That's what you expect from a player with a cap hit of close to 8M.
In the cap era a player's worth is given by his contract value (in terms of underpaid, average, overpaid). To have a winning team you need good players for sure, but you really need to have a lot of good players. To do so you need to have a lot of underpaid contracts.

Interesting, but I think that's a bit of a steal for the Hawks. I think the teams are definitely talking about Hjalmarsson. Maybe Kane for Nash too.

Kane is being shopped, quietly, I'm hearing from multiple people closer to the Hawks than anyone else saying otherwise.

The idea would be Howson gets maybe 3 mid level talent players(being Crawford,Hjalmerson and someone else, see the Ottawa trade rumor) in return for Nash , then Bowman turns around and swaps Kane for Miller.

Because I have read on many many occassions management outright deny it and say they have no interest in it. I know it's the prototypical thing to say and wouldn't admit it even if they were but I take things for face value.

whats the nightlife like in Columbus??

could be a dealbreaker.

i doubt kane would stay anyway, that team is career suicide, unless he just doesnt care where he plays, which isnt his style.

i dont think columbus can do anything right, that team is so hamstrung by its reputation, location and management.

its a loser in every way, hopefully its the next atlanta.

Not sure where you get Yakapov having a bad attitude from, any thing I have heard or read shows him to have a great attitude. And Howson is stupid if that trade was actualy offered by SJ to not take it

I don't want Nash, this is ridiculous. Zibby, Bishop, Foligno and first...what the F#$#%!

Zibby alone will make 30 + goals
Bishop is huge in net and will get better
Foligno ok, but he's alone a very good player
This year's 15 overall on top? ...I DONT WANT NASH at that price.

Murray, NO!

Pavs has almost the same point totals over the past few years as Nash... Nash is a $7.8M dollar a year cap hit and Pavs is $4M.... Why Pavs is being thrown around as trade bait for Nash makes no sense to me.... They are also the same age! Now Clowe + Niemi + Demers + pick makes sense if we get Nash + Mason...

If that is the offer the Sharks have set forth, then Howson is truly an idiot

Yes but Pavs had the benefit of playing with Couture and Clowe

Wow if Yakupov slips to number 2 and the Jackets don't pick him, they are the biggest idiots in hockey. Zherdev or Filatov weren't first overall caliber picks. Yakupov has more potential than Hall imo.

I think the problem is that the Blue Jackets keep asking for Chris Kreider, and the Rangers response has been, who are you giving us along with Rick Nash to get Kreider?
- jimbro83

I personally think the Rangers would be crazy to give up Kreider in any deal.

Foligno? Ok. He's had flashes of brilliance and a career year last year, but he's like Vermette, we can do without him.

Zibby? The kid seems like a big game player, but he's a couple of years away from making an impact and may never be as good as Nash.

Bishop? With the Brobovsky trade I don't think he's involved anymore. They will likely have to find another player.

#15 pick? Tim Murray said he thinks the player they pick can be a top 9 forward or a top 4 defenseman in a few years. I say give it up.
