Apparently Yakupov thinks CLB and CAR were "mean" in their interviews.

That's debatable in my opinion.  The Flyers have a big need for a defenseman like him.  He's got a right handed shot (which the Flyers don't have), and hits like a freight train.  He's only 22 as well, so he's getting better and has a lot of upside.  He's always among the league leaders in hits too.  And I don't wanna trade Schenn either.  I bought his jersey during the first round.  But Bobby Ryan in Philly, playing with Giroux would be magic.  I think those two are perfect for eachother.  Who's going to play wing with Giroux over the next few seasons?   JVR?  Maybe. But maybe isn't good enough.  That's why it seems like Holmgren is making a push to land Ryan or Nash.
- TonyBazz

No they don't have a big need for a defenseman like Schenn. They have a big need for a #1 defenseman, and a defenseman that can play on the Power play. If they're going to trade JVR, or B Schenn for a Dman, that's what they need in return. Not a stay at home defensive defenseman like Schenn.

found this:

Since he will be signing an entry level contract this is not a case of must UFAs where they sign to the highest bidder. Instead all teams will be offering the same contract, and it is a matter of where Schultz wants to start his NHL career.

Actually, teams can vary quite a bit with the "type b" bonuses and conditions for reaching them in an entry-level contract. The ELC base salary and signing bonus will be the max wherever he signs but there is some wiggle room on other bonuses for a team that also has the ice time to dangle.

i'm not 100% sure either, but i thought that was one of the reasons this is so up in the air. it's not gonna be a bidding war because everyone has to offer him something similar, its just a matter of where he wants to play

EDIT: or exactly what was said above

thanks, deaninator

There wont be a rookie contract... he will be a UFA, and if he is as highly touted as it sounds.. his price will likely be around 3-4 mill without ever playing an NHL game.

Schultz will be signing a EL contract. With likely max bonuses.

He has a handful to choose from... JvR, Voracek, Hartnell, Read, possibly Schenn or Briere...

As for the d-man.. We dont need schenn.. We have Grossmann who is extremely physical in his own right.

What we need is a guy who can man a PP and brings a bit of offense with him. Either that or a reliable 5th-6th dman who is capable of playing 20 minutes a night if needed due to injury. Mike Weaver comes to mind.

- jak521

Yea I can name you the Flyers lineup too.  As much as I love Hartnell's season last year, it's tough to see him repeating that.  Bottom line, you put Bobby Ryan or Rick Nash together with Giroux and you have something special (most likely 40 plus goals from one of them IMO).  Hartnell and Giroux?  Good.  Really good.  But not as good as Ryan/Nash.
Ok the Flyers don't need Luke Schenn, but they sure could use him or someone like him.  Grossman is physical but who else is?  (crickets)  I agree they also need a puck moving defenseman that can get the puck up the ice and one that can run the PP as well.  Which is why Garrison is my first choice for defenseman this offseason.   Wideman is a great choice as well.  But the Flyers lost to the Devils because their defenseman got pounded in the corners, murdered on the cycle and got worn down because of it.  A guy like Luke Schenn would have helped as well as a guy that could have got the puck up the ice to the forwards with a good outlet pass or a decent clear.  Yes the Flyers need a puck moving defenseman, but they need a physical one just as bad.

if you read the whole article he was saying that some teams were asking those two to say what the other's weaknesses were

language issue makes it sound worse than it really was

which means people will be referencing it for years to come while i'm annoyed about it

Ah, so it is my cute little Galchenyuk trying to stir up trouble for Nail. Cleverly attempting to move himself UP in the draft.

Who else is physical? Coburn, Grossmann, and Meszaros. Luke Schenn wouldn't have made a bit of difference in the NJ Series. They don't need a defenseman like Schenn. They have that already in Grossmann, Coburn, and Meszaros. It's about the mix you have. And with Timonen aging and Pronger being done, they need a top defenseman. Not a Luke Schenn.

I want them to make a move, but make the right move. Trading young players and draft picks for Ryan or Nash is the wrong move in my opinion. Should've just kept Carter then.
