When asked if a player in the system could be Flyers' backup, Paul Holmgren responds and says: "Michael Leighton is in our system." Well, OK

He is but I guess they could resign him to be a backup.

Throwing more money at Leighton who has started like 3 games the last two years at the NHL level? Yeah, no thanks.

Not exactly, Yandle. Ob, you know anything about the prospects? I have no clue.

They could be just clearing money to sign Crosby now & then Malkin the following year.

Not always to bring in another player.

Some draftniks feel Laughton would have been available in second round when #Flyers pick at No. 45 overall.

Frank Seravalli‏@DNFlyers

Penguins cleared $8M off the salary cap tonight with Staal and Z. Michalek gone.

I realize Staal didn't want to remain in Pittsburgh, but losing him hurts the Penguins significantly. Great faceoff guy, their best defensive forward by a wide margin, as well as being a threat offensively. Shero did will with the return given the circumstances, but make no mistake this is a big blow to the Penguins.

Makes me happier they took him then. Never a guarantee he would have been, if they believed that much in him then they did the right thing and took him.

unless the re-sign him for a lot less, Leighton as a backup isn't much less of a cap hit that Bob. Would rather have kept him if that is the plan.

But I don't really think that is the plan...

maybe, but the pens thought they were ready last yr and they seem determined to get back to the elite level they were at a couple of yrs ago. shero rebuilt his D and they were awful. now I think a big move is on the horizon.
