Maybe with Coots eventually sliding into the second center position, they didn't want Coots always have to be playing against the other team's top centers all the time. My hunch is they want this kid to take on some of those responsibilities.

I don't mind the pick, you had to think they'd go against the grain of defense even in a year it's the deepest in round 1
- ob18

I'm sorry, but we just won't stand for that. Were not going to lower ourselves and develop our own defenseman. That's for losers!

It's obvious the booing threw off Homer and drafted a kid that will be in a beer league in three short months years.
- Flyskippy

Beer leagues? Psh, you're overrating him worse than Holmger! #loftyexpectations

Couldn't they move down a bit and take this kid?
- 77rams

I would think so yea... They must not be impressed with what else was there. Look how many times these scouting reports are wrong.

Flyers have been solid in this draft position. I gotta give Holmgren the benefit of the doubt here... sounds like the TSN guys did too
- eayost

Yeah, I'll take Luce, Pryor, and Holmgren's opinion over a teenager and a troll any day and twice on Friday.

Homer is one of the best eyes in the NHL for scouting kids. The End.
- Flyskippy

I'm cool with this. Face it people flyers don't want to wait on developing a dman. Completely fine if this the best projected 3rd line center in the draft. There is a need

I doubt very seriously Joe, that if they viewed this kid as a 3rd/4th line player, that they take him with that pick. They undoubtedly see him as being far more then that.
- MJL

I'd imagine they view him more like J. Staal was a "3rd" line center on Pitt. A guy that's a #2 on most teams, but a #3 on our team due to the solid depth. And defensively minded... wasn't everyone complaining how our forwards don't play defense? Here you go

Still think by the time this kid is ready they will already have another third line center on their roster.

They can still get one at #45, I have to go with they did their homework here, they obviously know more then we do.

That's pretty rich coming from Philly. Guarantee if the shoe is on the other foot its no different.

Its really nothing personal, we just don't like you. Kid just got a nice into to the rivalry.

- Emperor Filonius

Don't worry, it will be in 2014, if you're relevant then.

Like I said I like the pick. Not overjoyed or Euphoric just warm and a tad fuzzy. Think they mighta been on to something.

A spectular day for the Pens, really? You lose a top two-way center for prospects who might pan out. I guess we'll find out.

flyers have a pretty good track record taking forwards in the early 20s, i wouldnt be so quick to trash this kid. how many of these guys have most of you actually even seen play?
- FlyerMike18

Other than OB, probably none of them have seen any of them play.

Yes they undoubtedly see something in the kid. And I guarantee they don't see him as a 3rd liner. They see him as more then that.

They're just trying to thin the blood of the fanbase.
