What I'm saying is that it makes zero sense to state that JVR ws a non factor last year so he doesn't need to be replaced. It's not unusual for a young player to have issue with consistency. And it's not his fault he was hurt all Season. It remains to be seen if JVR can be the player that Ryan is. And it's not a stretch to believe that he can get there. JVR isn't soft.

Another bit of logic that escapes me. Trade him while his value is high. Makes zero sense. That isn't why you decide to trade a player. Is Read worth less as a player because he wasn't drafted or traded for? That also makes zero sense.

So JVR won't be as good as Ryan, and Read won't repeat those numbers. It's nice to have a crystal ball!

- MJL

GM's have to look at trades like the stock market... Buy low Sell high. Where you make your money is when you buy low, and the stock goes up (aka Read). Or, if you know when to sell before it tumbles (aka JVR).

Ok, so Read may be stable (I don't think any one would believe that he's got much more upside.). And, JVR stock may increase. You can't argue that both of these guys are a risk. Ryan is more of a known quantity with stable numbers (blue chip stock) - he is past (which he did quickly) the inconsistency that JRV is struggling through.

Lets just say Read scores 50 pts a season for the next 2 years. Where will you get that production for 900K a year? Not to mention he only had 12 PIM all year,

More ice time to Coots and Schenn... More production - at less than 900K...

He had 11 goals while playing "healthy"... His two major injuries occur almost back to back 15 games in January through February 18, then 21 games starting March 4. So, the majority of the games he play were his norm. Only 11. I was being generous by saying he might double that if he continue on pace with the early season. He could have gotten worse.

I agree that trading Read would hurt, but you can't get a stable performer with out giving up something. Read is ultimately replaceable easier than landing a power forward like Ryan. Read will never be a line 1 guy (and JRV chance are slipping).

- leon neon

He played THROUGH injuries all season long. He was pretty much never 100% this season yet was still nearly a .5 ppg player.

EDIT: AND Frozen Four

- aosplayo

So if NJ uses their draft pick, they have to forfeit next year's 1st rounder...the year they host the draft. INteresting.

Your writing off JVR way too early. And that's a mistake. He was well on his way to a fine Season before he got injured. And he was right on schedule on a solid developmental path. I'd trade JVR for Ryan. But I'm not adding Read. Who is a very good value at 900K. Read gave you 25 goals at 900K. Ryan had 31 goals at 5M+

No they don't have to look at trades like the stock market. Your not dealing commodities hoping they will increase in value. GM's look at does making this deal make my team better. I'd say trading JVR and Read for Ryan doesn't make the team better.

And someone has to replace them in their roles. See if you can find a player for 900K that will give you what Read did last year?

Frozen four is MUCH more important.

And to the guy who thinks JVR's transverse abdominal problem was 2 weeks in February, clues aren't that expensive. Get one.

This whole thing makes no sense at all. I can not fathom giving up a guy who scored 25 goals at 900k, and a young power forward who has already scored 21 goals and who could easily score 30-35 if healthy, for a guy with a bigger cap hit who WILL NOT equal the production of those two.

Just stop with this nonsense, take a step back and think about it.

Would I trade Ryan for JVR straight up? Of course I would. But to trade JVR AND Read for Ryan is just dumb. It weakens the team. especially when defense should be the priority.

You are basically getting Ryan to replace the production of Jagr, JVR AND Read, that will never happen.

It baffles the mind that so may people want to give up on a kid that is 23 years old. It shows a complete lack of knowledge about power forwards in this league and their development paths.

It is even more ridiculous to see the silly comments. JVR is soft. JVR is a bust. JVR hasn't lived up to his potential. Just stop it, it makes you look dumb.

@NHLFlyers have appearantly made an offer for PK Subban. Stay tuned.
- mochoson

I do not see this.

This isn't from Steve Levy's post this morning where he heard the Flyers were interested in Subban and didn't realize it was the goalie brother?
