I think Bob will do very well as a starter. I kinda thought they'd get more for him but I suspect its a salary dump to make room to sign or trade for a dman... Is chris mason signed for next year?might be worth a look.

That's my favorite bit of logic that I read. JVR was a non factor last year, so we don't have to replace him. Cracks me up. That's the same as saying you don't need an injured player that was out of the lineup if a team makes a long playoff run. It's mind boggling.

JVR and Read for Ryan is a bad deal. I would pass. It's overpaying.

- MJL

What are you trying to say?

JVR is not a two-way player like a Coots. JVR role as a Flyer is a power forward / goal scorer. He has shown flashes of greatness, but is no where near consistant. JVR had 11 goals last season in 42 games, if he played a full season that nets him around 21-22 goals - similar to past high points. He's not a bruising power forward and plays a soft game. JVR is not a bad player, I just doubt he will never be the player that Ryan is.

On the other hand, Read played great last season as a rookie. He can play multiple roles... I hope, but don't think he'll repeat these numbers. Trade him while his value is high. Remember, Homer didn't waste a pick on him, nor did he trade assets for him. He was signed.

So 22 goals while playing injured all year. Man imagine if he had been healthy and continued at that 40 goal pace he was on

Mind as well trade G as well. His stock will never be higher!!

Lets just say Read scores 50 pts a season for the next 2 years. Where will you get that production for 900K a year? Not to mention he only had 12 PIM all year,

If the Flyers are going to make a trade for #6, don't you suppose they'll wait until on the floor tonight and they know that what they want is there?

And after reading Bill's diagram of where that 2nd round pick has been, it seems very tired.

What I'm saying is that it makes zero sense to state that JVR ws a non factor last year so he doesn't need to be replaced. It's not unusual for a young player to have issue with consistency. And it's not his fault he was hurt all Season. It remains to be seen if JVR can be the player that Ryan is. And it's not a stretch to believe that he can get there. JVR isn't soft.

Another bit of logic that escapes me. Trade him while his value is high. Makes zero sense. That isn't why you decide to trade a player. Is Read worth less as a player because he wasn't drafted or traded for? That also makes zero sense.

So JVR won't be as good as Ryan, and Read won't repeat those numbers. It's nice to have a crystal ball!

Absolutey. Trade a good player coming off a 25 goal Rookie Season. Why, because his stock will never be higher. That's how you build a team!

He had 11 goals while playing "healthy"... His two major injuries occur almost back to back 15 games in January through February 18, then 21 games starting March 4. So, the majority of the games he play were his norm. Only 11. I was being generous by saying he might double that if he continue on pace with the early season. He could have gotten worse.

I agree that trading Read would hurt, but you can't get a stable performer with out giving up something. Read is ultimately replaceable easier than landing a power forward like Ryan. Read will never be a line 1 guy (and JRV chance are slipping).
