All of a sudden I'm thinkin' of 1970, Sly Stone:

Everybody is a star
I can feel it when you shine on me
I love you for who you are
Not the one you feel you need to be
Ever catch a falling star
Ain't no stopping 'til it's in the ground
Everybody is a star
One big circle going round and round

capgeek was stating that Schenn's cap hit is the full $3.1 unless there is a bonus cushion put into place in the next CBA. I don't fully get it, but seems like it won't be the $1.whatever it was this year.

And on top of it.. Ryan has been on a very successful line.. He has put up very solid totals while playing with Getzlaf and Perry.

- jak521

Are you saying Giroux is a inferior to Getzlaf?

There has been a lot of talk that the Flyers don't need offense... I disagree. We need to replace Jagr, and upgrade Giroux's wing. Hartnell did a good job last year, but I don't expect that again. I'd like to see him slide to Briere's line. Whether it's Nash or Ryan (or Praise, etc...) - I don't care - I'd like to see a true sniper/power forward with Giroux.

So you want to trade a potential 30 goal guy, a guy who gets 900K for the next 2 years and will score 50pts, a 6/7 d-man and the 20th pick overall for a 30 goal guy and a draft pick...got it...

Dream trade:

JVR, Read, Bourdon, 1st and 2nd for

Ryan, Schultz, and 6th overall.

- flyersfan51

Forget Schultz he is going to test the UFA market. That would be a waste and over payment. Please stop already.

counts towards the cap without a cushion, however, until any bonuses are no longer attainable.

edit: so awards and counting stats like Gs and As will count all year if no cushion.

Bobby Ryan > potential 30 goal guy (JVR)
Read is good, but that's the price you pay to move from 20th-6th and same with Bourdon. Plus, you have to comensate the fact that Ryan is better than JVR.

Not at all.. I am suggesting that Giroux and Getzlaf are both verrrry verrry good centers. Getzlaf has the edge is a few things, giroux a few others.

My point is that for three seasons Ryan has been a main stay on the top line, and has put up good numbers.. JvR has never gotten extended time on the top line, and has put up decent numbers. I think JvR needs a season on the top line..

I think you can replace Jagr with out trading JvR + for Nash or Ryan.

In your argument you say our offense needs help because we are losing Jagr and Hartnell cant be expected to reach the same numbers....

So trade two very talented young players for one?

So you lose three gain one... and it improves the offense?

However, IIRC, with Schenn his bonus was worked out so that he had to attain ALL of his bonuses to get the money. Therefore, one game under 25 minutes in TOI, and his bonus is out the window.

capgeek is saying that that bonus is not a part of year two, which is the issue.

Right now he is, but I think in a year or 2 they are basically the same player. So then you are paying Ryan 5.1 instead of 4.25 for JVR. Plus JVR is under contract for 3 more years than Ryan. If you want a winger go out and try to get Parise. He is light years better than Ryan.

I think they project to be very similar guys.. but I personally think JvR will be a better set up man while Ryan is a slightly better scorer.

I could see JvR being a 30,40 guy.

Darren Dreger reported that the same terms apply to year 2 of Schenn's contract as first year. It is final year of ELC where terms of bonuses change.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=377385

Now, Capgeek could be right and Dreger wrong. I don't know. But the two reports contradict each other.

I agree with Parise being lights years better -- but he's going to get at least 7 years for 7 a year.
