It's optimism over what we had during the JFJ era. We actually have prospects to look forward too like Jake Gardiner and drafting in the top 5 next year isn't a bad proposition. If it means adding another blue chip prospect, I'm ok with that. Not like we're a contender for the cup next year anyways.

I'd lose respect for Burke if he started trading prospects away for band aid solutions like Luongo because I would know then that he's more worried about his job than what he preaches.

if he can get a Luongo or someone else to help us squeak into the playoffs cheaply than I'm all for it. Otherwise, keep the prospects and rebuild. I've missed 7 years of playoffs in a row, you think 8 is really going to be the end of the world for me?

Jake Gardiner appears to be a good young player, I'm not a Toronto hater FYI just having a conversation, I was at the game in Vancouver that the Canucks won 6-1 and Gardiner was the Leafs best player.

Anyways Burkes has never built through the draft, he's a trader by nature...impatient to a fault. So I wouldn't be surprised if he drafts this year and then tries more trades this summer or next.

Burke not much of a draft builder, you are right. Except for that pesky old time he drafted Hall of Famer Chris Pronger, and that other time he drafted future Hall of Famers The Sedins. If you check, Vancouver, built mostly by Burke and Nonnis through the draft. Havnt they been the best team in hockey for 3 years running?

Is there a person alive who really thinks the Canucks lose to the Kings if Daniel Sedin is healthy for the whole series? Instead of missing games/ playing while dizzy?

Not to take anything away from LA's amazing run, but they did beat the best team in the world while their best player was hurt.

I know on Rogers I can get one assigned every 3 minutes.. they assign based on your router's MAC Address, change that and cycle the router, magically you have a new ip

Can't believe I have to explain this to you but drafting a good player (Pronger) is NOT building a team through the draft...it's drafting one good player

Yes Burke made some great moves to put himself in a position to draft Daniel and Henrik, but again...he didn't build the Canucks into a contender through the draft. What part of that is hard to understand? He's never build a winning team through the draft...that's my point.

What does Nonis have to do with Burke building a team through the draft? Dean Lombardi built a winning team through the draft, that's what I mean.

Yeah it's usually how I get around downloading from filesharing sites for free. Power off my router, wait 10 seconds and away I go with a new IP. lol

You said trade. But I agree there is competition for both.

In the case of Nash though, he'd be acquired via trade, and nobody makes things happen in trades like DW... for better or for worse. And in this case, I'd argue it's for worse.

Why would anyone want Nash's contract when they can get Ryan who is a better player with lower cap. Nash on a good team will be better, maybe, but Ryan has already proven he can be a star among stars.

I think the forward priority for most teams for the available forwards in order would have to be: Parise, Ryan, Staal, Nash, JVR, Stewart. Parise and Ryan are the best all around players (Zach is not a power forward). Ryan might be the best value of everyone in this list unless Stewart returns to the Avs where he belongs.

Any Canuck fan that says the Canucks are going to trade Schneider is an idiot. You don't trade away young franchise goalies, especially when trading away Luongo means getting rid of a bad contract. Yes, Schneider would bring back so much more, but I would rather get rid of Luongo's contract and acquire other assets in a different way.

What good is cap space when there is jack $hit in terms of UFA's available? They don't have much else they could use in order to trade for someone who could fill that space, either.
