in comparison to what we had prior to Burke as far as youth? we didn't even have any youth to be question marks. Fack our farm team was almost as old as our NHL team most years and it was like we didn't realize the farm team is where your prospects played, not other 30 plus year old players who were playing out their careers
- Sheppy99

Not arguing there... the Leafs just aren't stacked with elite talent, and that's fine some players will pan out and some won't. This draft is crucial, as is getting Schultz and moving some dead weight.

Burke's focus should not be acquiring Nash it should be dumping salary.

Yeah, definitely not saying it's all smooth sailing from here

Just if people who aren't leaf fans could realize how bad our team was from top to bottom prior to Burke, they'd understand this modest pool of prospects is a big improvement over what we had which is nothing

Basically imagine the calgary flames in 3 years...... than you have our situation prior to Burke

Sorry to hear.

thanks

things change when it hits close to home and it is no joke and when people try to make a joke of it and get to the point of saying they would do it then its gone past the line of forgiveness when they knew the situation prior

Absolutely... all the trolls focus on is the Kessel trade, fine, enjoy and move on... the farm system was a (frank)in graveyard before Burke.

Flames are in for a world of hurt once Kipper is gone.

Let's all just be ok with one another,ok? No personal attacks towards ANYONE here will be tolerated. My soapbox from three pages back was my last word on how I work. Get some sleep.. .cheers.

As Smokey mentioned, your optimism is nice...but Toronto needs some serious help or they're going to draft in the top five again next year.

Kulemin, Frattin and Reimer where all in the Leafs system before Burke got there I believe. Kadri is a question mark, so is Schenn (although under the right coach I think he'll be good), Colbourne/Ashton...really?

If I was Burkes boss he would have been let go or very close to it!

and that's all i'm saying. Damn hard to get something from nothing and acquire prospects quicker than just drafting 1 first rounder every year.

I agree the Kessel trade was a bit of a failure but at least it was for a dynamic gifted 80 point early 20's goal scorer.

Earlier management would of made that same deal but for Alex Tanguay or Iginla

It's optimism over what we had during the JFJ era. We actually have prospects to look forward too like Jake Gardiner and drafting in the top 5 next year isn't a bad proposition. If it means adding another blue chip prospect, I'm ok with that. Not like we're a contender for the cup next year anyways.

I'd lose respect for Burke if he started trading prospects away for band aid solutions like Luongo because I would know then that he's more worried about his job than what he preaches.

if he can get a Luongo or someone else to help us squeak into the playoffs cheaply than I'm all for it. Otherwise, keep the prospects and rebuild. I've missed 7 years of playoffs in a row, you think 8 is really going to be the end of the world for me?

Would you rather have Tyler Seguin or Phil Kessel? How about Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton or Phil Kessel?

But overall, i agree with your point. I think BB is actually a pretty good general manager and if I were a Toronto fan I'd have faith he could do the same thing with the Leafs as he did with Vancouver and especially Anaheim.

Honestly... it barely matters.. the team is void of true talent in so many other areas that those two even as projected are just pieces

Thats part of the problem, he was granted complete control for the length of his tenure without influence from ownership. Well, contract is running out and new majority ownership has been declared. And we start over again...

Would it of made that much of a difference up until this point right now in having Seguin and Hamilton in place of Kessel? Probably not

Kessel has outscored Seguin so far and we have defensive prospects coming out our a$$ right now as it is.

Now in 5 to 10 years may that change? Possibly but for right now, it would not be the answer to all leafs problems if that deal was not made. We'd be searching for a dynamic young winger like Kessel instead of a dynamic young centerman like Seguin.

The new group of suits will give Burke the upcoming season. I won't pretend to know who's in charge but whomever is or think they will be must have that idea in the back of their minds already.... Hell it could be U_G for all we know.
