The SJS/MIN deal was kinda substantial last year.
- sambarugh

Someone will have to refresh my memory on how that trade went. I know it was Heatley for Setoguchi(I think).

Two big name roster players going both ways and first rounders involved?

Jack Campbell...won gold for the US in the World Juniors in 2010, and bronze in 2011. I don't think Dallas is giving him up though.

no I was saying why would they take Miller if they have him coming up the farm system. which nixes my idea thats all...

She didn't necessarily say they shouldn't, just that they aren't going to. It sounds like Pysyk is an untouchable in their eyes.
- buffalofan19

I don't know that for sure, but it keeps getting mentioned that they are looking for a top 4 D man with a right hand shot. And it's not just this year that's been said. He's a right hand shot. He's going to be a top 4 d man. Just using my logic skills to determine that it would be ridiculous for them to move him if that's what they're looking for. No, he's probably not going to be able to contribute this year, but in another year or 2 he will and they've been trying to find guys like that for years now.

No, I know what you meant. I'm leaning towards "doubtful" in regards to Pysyk as well.

(Side note, it seems that every time I try to type his name, I end up typing "Pysky" at first)

Basically... in all..

it was Heatley/Setoguchi/Coyle for Brent Burns/Havlat and some picks I think.

I think he comes into the year in great shape. I know Roberts has big plans for him. Knowing that he trains there in the offseason gives me the confidence he'll be perfect for that role. They just need to work on his skating, but I think Roberts said they were going to do that this summer.
- HonkFortheGoose

Confidence from offseason training is one thing
Trying to stop Crosby is a whole other thing

I just don't want us to ask too much of him too soon
We did that with Myers IMO & he regressed

I'm not saying we need to "baby" the kid,
But asking him to be our "drury" at such a young age is reckless at best
Plus,
Wasn't he traded bc he didn't want a similar role for Vancouver n was pissed about it?

Setoguchi, Coyle, and a pick for Burns and a 2nd in 2012? I don't know that it's as big as it seems. It's 1 roster player for another basically.

Bobrovsky to CBJ for 45 and 117 this year and 4th rd. (PHX) next year.

"Late Sunday night, San Jose GM Doug Wilson found a familiar trading partner in Minnesota GM Chuck Fletcher to make the second blockbuster between the two teams in just nine days. This time, Wilson moved star forward Dany Heatley to Minnesota in exchange for Martin Havlat, another star forward.

For Wilson, it was the matter of filling another area in which he felt his team was lacking, the same philosophy that drove him to trade promising young forward Devin Setoguchi to the Wild for All-Star defenseman Brent Burns during last week's Entry Draft."

i think Hodgson will be fine. They were using him on the 2nd PK unit if my memory serves me correct. I think that will also help with the defensive side of his game 5 on 5 as well.

It was the same two teams and happened within 9 days of each other. My bad for thinking it was part of the same trade but essentially it's one big move.

But that's just it, it's not. It's 9 days apart. If it was the same day, or even a day or 2 fine, but 9 days is a long time, especially during the offseason. All the pieces were not moved together, so its not a blockbuster by any means.

looking at the draft both picks this year, #'s 45 and 117 they got via trades and i believe the 4th rounder next year...

no big deal for them, they still have #'s 2 and 31 in rounds one and two...plus, pretty sure there'll be a pick or two in the nash deal

Its not that bad... they chose Bobz to be their "goalie of the future" for a 2nd rounder basically.

i like the jackets ability to really get their rebuild going this year, a bounty for nash plus (what should be) an instant nhl'er from the #2 overall pick

I would love to see that Ottawa Sun article be correct, and see Edmonton draft Ryan Murray #1 overall, and Columbus go Forsberg or Dumba with #2. Then everyone will yell at Darcy for not trading up. This is the weakest draft in a while. That would just put the icing on the cake.

Bobrovsky could be a good goalie, but he needs a special kind of environment and I don't know that Columbus is going to be able to do that for him. He's still learning his way and has confidence issues because Laviolette may be the only coach that has more trouble with managing his goaltenders than Lindy Ruff.

yep

I guarantee he could have gotten luongo for a similar price

instead he went from the having the goalie with the 42nd best save % to the goalie with the 41st and 42nd best save %
