Anyone consider a Nash for Luongo one for one swap? What would Nuck fans think. - mrhattrick27
We've definitely exhausted that topic on our threads. The way I see it, Nash's cap hit is too high for what he brings and there is the length of it to consider. That said, he would instantly make our team better over simply keeping the Luongo-Schneider tandem so we'd definitely gain from the trade.
Not to sound too homerish but we've had a number of players take less than market value to sign with the Canucks. The Sedins are on 6.1m, Kesler on 5m, Burrows on 2m. Nash coming in at 7.8m might destabilize the team's balance and create friction. This isn't Crosby we're talking about here. |

I agree with this. I don't see it as a realistic possibility unless MG talks to the Twins, Kesler, Bieksa, Hamhuis and Burrows about it first and they're okay with it.

Your point is obviously correct. I was just pointing out that Leafs fans have dealt with the same thing for many years. - GoneFullRetard
I agree, and that's why I don't treat Leafs fans like they are all the same. |

Good line mates typically don't make that huge a difference in stats anyway.
I agree though, Nash is wildly overrated, for him to succeed he needs to go to a place where he won't necessarily have to be the top guy - S Kaspar Rollins
he's the top guy on a terrible team. Give him a good center and he's bound to do better. |

I never said JVR was better now, but I would still take him over Nash, now, considering their salaries, and if JVR can stay healthy, he'll likely improve on all his totals.
JVR's health is a bit of a concern, but not much. - Fosco
so you would take a 21 goal, 35 point guy over a 30 goal, 59 point guy. |

No doubt, but I refuse to believe he's the franchise player his cap hit suggests |

correct, that cannot be argued because he's failed to accomplish the feat. |

Prediction:
Staal stays but eventually moves to Carolina next off-season
Nash gets traded to Philly for Van Riemsdyk, 2 first and Bobrovsky at the draft.
Ryan stays but the ones that come closest are the Rangers.
Pat Kane stays (BUT if he does gets traded its to Buffalo).
Luongo goes to the Panthers for a First a Second and Upshall. - mrhattrick27[/quote]
Jacques Martin isn't in the Panthers organization anymore. Never happen. |

JVR is 23, and doesn't get near the minutes Nash does. Not to mention he likely would have continued his development very nicely if he hadn't gotten injured. I'd take JVR at 4.2 over Nash at 7.8million. - Fosco
jvr also plays on the top pp in the league and while he doesn't get the mins he was still playing with better forwards than nash

Agreed, at that price I'd want a player that can carry my team into the playoffs or at least keep the team in the hunt and he obviously has not done that. Like you, I think he'd excel on a team like Philly or NYR where he wouldn't be "the guy". |

I would love Luongo to be a Leaf in any other scenerio but this one. We all know what a difference goaltending can make, but in a cap world, we would be taking the cap hit long after his best days and playing days are done(43) |

I would take JVR over Nash, considering their salaries, and the fact that I think JVR will eventually be at least as good as Nash.
I expect better numbers out of JVR this season—50+ points isn't a stretch—and the extra $3.6 million in cap space could be put to very good use. |

Agreed. To automatically assume he'll increase his production by 40 points just by going to another team is a reach. It's certainly possible, especially if those teams were PHI or PIT, but it's doubtful. At 7.8m you should regularly net around 100 points a season and stand out in the playoffs. |

well, again all i'll say is nash is the better, more durable player right now. In the future, well it's the future. anything can change. |

He makes 1m each of his last 4 seasons. Either a) he'll retire by then, or b) he plays for the Marlies those last 4 seasons. It's a 6 year contract. |

JVR played with Briere, and Simmonds, and sometimes with Talbot, Voracek, and Schenn. Aside from Briere, I wouldn't say those guys are much better than Nash's linemates.
He also didn't get much time on the PP. |

it's unreasonable to demand one man carry a team to the playoffs, especially a forward. While his goal totals have dipped over the past 4 years he's still one of the best power forward in the league. Is he overpaid, yes. Is he a good player, yes. - tomburton99
Yup, and you don't trade excessive amounts of assets for an overpaid player, no matter how good he is. |

Canuck AGM Gilman on goalie trade talks: "There is interest in place right now. Conceivable we could make a deal this weekend."
If there is someone better versed in lawyer-speak than Gilman, I haven't heard of him. Oh wait, Gary Bettman |

wouldn't Nash look good with Gomez and Gionta?.. he'd definitely score 50 and get at least 30 assists as well...
and more than likely he'd be Montreal's all-star nomination... just like Komisarek was.
definitely wouldn't benefit from playing with Grabovski and Kulemin... much better to go to the Habs.
but how does the francaphone announcer and play by play guy make Nash sound French? |

What's the word on Armstrong these days? Still battling concussion symptoms or is he out of the woods and good to go? |
