Columbus will probably be taking Murray... one of Galy, Forsberg or Grigorenko will be there for the Leafs.

And really, Lupul's season was on par with anything Nash has ever done... but we're attaching him, Colborne, and Gunnarsson to the 1st overall to get Nash and the 2nd?

That's idiocy.

You are right, Lupul is basically Nash

It is highly unrealistic that Burke would part with that much.

Toronto gives up Gardiner, 5th, 35th, Lupul, Colborne, Gunnarsson, and gets Galchenyuk(who might fall to them anyways) and Nash?

Not worth it.

- Schenn-Sational!

Lets not involve the picks for a second... because it would just make more sense for TO to trade Gardiner and the 5th for the 1st. And then leave that. Then it would be Lupul, Colborne, Gunnarsson and a 2nd for Nash.

I would imagine NYR or other teams would package a better deal together... not saying I think its worth it... cause I believe Nash is overrated... BUT.. if there is a market for him and there is always a team willing to overpay.

Why does everyone keep saying his contract sucks... look at it as 6 years left... 7 at the MOST.

Even if he doesn't retire (which history would say he would) you can bury that contract in the minors (NTC.. not NMC) and if he wants to play out his contract riding the bus in the AHL making 1 million a year for 3 years (when he has already made over 80 million in his career) then by all means... owners would have no problem paying 3 million dollars to have an experienced guy like Lu mentoring the kids in the AHL. Especially a rich ownership group like the MLSE.

The contract should not be an issue at all... if a team feels they can start contending in the next 3-4 years... then Lu is a very good option. Lu is a solid goaltender... I have no problem if he stays... I would prefer Schneider because he is younger and cheaper but If CS can get you a much better return then I will be very happy with whatever happens!

Its highly unrealistic he'll want to get his first line? Lets be honest, its not all that bad. He has got lots of defense. Lupul doesn't strike me as getting along with Carlyle, Colborne is a second line centre with first line upside, and they get superstar Yakupov...good trade

Why? Lupul missed all that time with 1 thing, he's not overly injury prone.

And no, Lupul isn't Nash, but he's much, much cheaper, and fills a very similar role.

As for not getting along with Carlyle... his best season prior to this one was with him... and he plays the kind of game Carlyle likes.

I dont like the people who give him poop for every damn thing he says on twitter. People need to get some (frank)ing lives.

I can't see why people can't just see the deal for what it is. Everyone gets what they want. Columbus gets a superstar in Yakupov, a defensive pairing (with Gunnarson), a potential 2nd line centre behind Johansen in Colborne a second round pick, and gets rid of the elephant in the room in Nash

Edmonton gets 2 (maybe 3 if this Shultz hype comes to fruition) defenders and starts their dynasty off right.

Toronto gets the coveted pieces to their first line. They already have defensemen like Blacker and Holzer in the wings ready to jump in and the pieces would flourish under Carlyle, all they'd need is a goalie.

Its win win win.

I just don't see how Howson thinks he's going to get a 1st round pick, a top 6 forward/top 4 dman, and a top notch prospect for Nash. His production mirrors that of many 2nd line forwards, and his contract is amongst the most unbearable in the league.

Any GM that gives Howson that for Nash should be fired.

Carlyle had no faith in him...ever. Lupul was at least a second liner but Carlyle gave him protected minutes cause he was worried he'd get hurt.

The 5th pick isn't that bad too... If we could land Grigorenko, that would satisfy me. We get a Centre with loads of potenital and it doesnt cost us any assets.
- mfreedman

I agree. I would rather Grigorenko and Gardiner than just Yak...or Galy and a 2nd...

This time around, yes, after coming back from the injury... and Carlyle admitted he made a mistake.

Before that, though, Carlyle was giving him 2nd line minutes, and Lupul produced to the tune of 53 points in his 2nd NHL season... and when he came back to the team, just before the injury, same thing, 2nd line minutes(hard to get 1st line minutes when you're playing on the same team as Perry, Ryan, and Selanne), and had 10 goals in 23 games before going down.

The only coach you can say Lupul struggled with is MacTavish.

Quite honestly I am somewhat inclined to agree...but the problem is Burke doesn't really draft Russians. I'd like to see Grigorenko become Malkin Lite, unfortunately I don't think it will be with the leafs

Nash has played at least 70 games a season all but once. Thats reliability
