Breaking news: Hearing Jordan Staal turned down 10-yr mega offer from PIT. Has indicated to PIT he doesn't plan on signing extension now.

Wow. This should light up the rumor mill.

Some team (Leafs ) is gonna get sucked into dropping a lot of prospects for a one year guy.

If Staal won't re-up in PIT, where he loves it, not expected to extend with anyone else who may trade for him. Except perhaps Carolina.

I'd have to agree with McKenzie here. If Staal is turning down a good offer from PIT it's because he has another location(s) in mind. And that location is most probably Carolina. He might even play out the year in PIT and go to CAR for free next summer.

Wonder what Marc Staal is planning.

Would be worth it but they'd probably get more for him. If not, might as well keep him for that year seeing as PIT is still considered a contender.

What would be a hoot is if Gillis traded Raymond Schroeder and a 2 nd for Staal from Pitt and at the same time swung a deal for Kesler Booth For Eric Stall and moved Jordan to the wing for our second line

Both Staals as our second line.

Drawing from yesterdays talk, I like the idea of signing Jagr. He's big, he's a vet with a Cup ring and he's a skilled playmaker. He could be great on the 2nd line with Kesler and he could play with the Sedins. He's basically everything I wanted in Selanne last year, plus some passing skill but minus some footspeed and sniping. I'd definitely make a pitch to him.

Good points Micah, it would be interesting to see.

Well a guy in the Pitts thread seems to think that Jordan Staal is going to get 7-8 million... WOW!

Crazy. If that is true then what would Kesler be worth?

That will work well in Carolina with Eric around 8 mil. Maybe all of them in the Big Apple.

I am assuming a central piece in a package for Staal would be Brandon Sutter. I would try to pry Justin Faulk out of there, but he seems to be as close to untouchable as one can be.

Yeah.. I dont think that would be the right move for Carolina... Staal is a solid 2 way centerman... but they could get him for free a year later.

Totally agreed. CAR won't give up anything, teams will inquire and someone might even make a modest offer for 1 season with Jordan Staal (waste of time if you ask me), and PIT will either accept the best offer or simply keep him as their 3rd line center for his final season.

I heard the spurned offer was for 10 years @6M per. 10 years is outrageous for any player but 6M per sounds about right for this guy, even if he hasn't proven he's worth more than 4M yet. 7-8M is just silly talk.
