I find it insane and absurd that anyone would pass on Yak just because they need help on D...

People do realise teams can address their needs through trades and free agency, and not just the draft...right?.........RIGHT!?

- Gunslinger

ya but how many top centres get traded? if they do its usually because of a negative... Theres no guarentee that your drafted centre pans out but it costs a lot less to develop one yourself than to trade or overpay someone on an extended contract

disagree entirely, sir. people are saying Murray won't be a difference maker because he's unlikely to put up huge offensive numbers. but he's going to be a guy who for 25 minutes a night will shut down the opposition and allow his team to control the game. that's a difference maker to me. i don't think the Oilers have anyone in their system like that.
- DoubleDown

I dont think Murray has proven any of that yet in the NHL. D are harder to develop than forwards and usually take longer.

Agreed. Oilers would be foolish to pass on Yak.

Is there a cap that puts a limit on goals scored per game in europe? Are teams only allowed to score once a week or something?

How do you see high end talent from a guy who scores like 8 goals in 43 games?

Vasilevski is a steal for a late pick He's the best goalie in the draft.

None of the guys that will be drafted tomorrow have played in the NHL...talk about a weak argument!

Exactly. So there was no need for someone to come on these boards and tell us what Murray can and will do. Like playing 25 minutes a night for the Oilers etc etc etc.

They are all gambles, Yak the least of the bunch.

Talk about a weak inability to grasp the crux of my point.

He's decent but he's relied on his athleticism. I mean that's a great thing to have and he can be coached in the other areas of the game but as of right now. It's Vasilevski all the way for me.
- wolfos412

Between those two, id make the same selection.

If Subban is not taken as the first goalie in the draft... then I'm calling the racism card.

This has nothing to do with playing the white way... or wait it does.

1. Edmonton Oilers– Ryan Murray, Everett Silvertips, Defense – the need of the Oilers for defense is just too great to pass on a blueliner that is ready to play right now. This selection would raise some eyebrows but it shouldn't.

We don't draft Murray because we need d help and he is ready to play in the NHL. We draft him if we think he is the best prospect in this draft.

Is he the best prospect in the draft?

I really don't think he is.

Other teams will give up assets to get Yakupov... not sure if they would do that for Murray!!!

agreed, always take the best guy. If you need a dman you could then trade that 'best guy' and get much more than a prospect d man.

Not only that, but drafting Murray means the Oilers failed to maximize on the first overall selection. Oilers can easily take Murray at 2 or 3 AND get something for trading away the pick that lands Yakupov.

Jason Spezza, thats who.

Besides, Yakupov doesnt speak french. I say the team drafts like it hires. All french, all the time.

Draft Gaunce, rename him Gauche and play him on the left side. The idiots will go bananas over the newest francophone to don the red white and blue. Like any other proud American...or french guy.

Regarder mon ami!!! Gauche joue at la gauche! C'est tres funny, mais tres francios! Or some other form of similiar idiotic nonsense.

- DarcyTucker16

I sure did. Well, the Gauche part.

And how can I resist? The only decent forward theyve drafted in the last 5 years is a guy named Leblanc. Really? Really?!

And by decent I mean a crappy 3rd liner.

He might be, some scouts have him at one. If we happen to have him at #1 then fine take him, but you don't take a player because you need him especially at 1.

It's no different if you are TOR and say Faska/Grigorenko/Galchenyuk are gone do you take Grigesons/Hertl because you need a center?

I did. That was the family rated version. Is this about keeping it clean or about not poking fun at the Habs? Hmmm...

And for the record, Perron is a better goal scorer than Pacioretty.

Poke fun at the Habs all you want. There is nothing against that.
Don't poke fun at the language and ethnicity of some of the fans, and don't call them idiots. That's all I am asking.
