1. Yes your giving up the best D-man in the game, but if you have to give up 1 or the other, I would rather give up the guy you can get a king's ransome for as opposed to the guy that walks for free.

2. No-one says Suter is resigning, that is why I said earlier that I dont think Weber gets traded till after July 1, if at all.

3. No his value would go down at the deadline because he would be a UFA and able to walk from any team that trades for him. Too much of a chance to take when you have to give up a lot to get him. Unless Nashville allows teams to talk to Weber first.

- RooNosHockey

I understand that, but it is the same risk you face now.. Imagine trading JvR, Voracek, MaB, 2 firsts... and then have him only sign a one year deal... you are in the same boat.

I also understand that the risk is greater, but to simply say you dont trade for a player like that at the TDL is crazy.. Also... what about during the season? What if come December Nashville and Weber realize its just not working out.. cant make a move then?

What happened to Tim Thomas in the playoffs before 2011? Or Jon Quick in 2012. Or even Ed Belfour before 1999? Even Fleury's Cup was on his one really hot run in the playoffs. Other than that he's been an average playoff goalie.

There's reason for concern, but looking at things after one year is being knee jerk and reactionary.

he's been a flyers fan for 40 years. it's obvious he just hates russians.

No sense in worrying about it until it happens.
- Jsaquella

I'm not worried about it, just thinking about the possibilities. Giroux-Nash would be fun as hell to watch for the next years. Can't deny that.

Just a hypo:

If Breeze was traded to the Flyers last year with one year left on his contract, do you attempt re-sign him?

And if so, what's your offer?

- 77rams

Actually, yes I would. The reason why... Because you could probally get him at a bargan after last year, or get him to resign a 1-2 year deal to show he is a better goalie and can earn the better contract. If he does, good. If not, then Bob may be developed enough to just say good-bye.

Regardless, if Bryz hit the UFA market after this seasons performance, then him salary would be lower, and term would be shorter.

And Since I am of the belief he iwll turn it around, I would sign him at a bargan.

While the flyers have interest in Nash, the sorts of deals rumored are much higher than what is actually being discussed. Not close even

Why would nashville trade weber in the middle of their playoff run?
- Philly1980

Why trade him at all?

Why bec like the argument has been for trading him now... he can get you valuable commodities... They have defensive depth.. Assuming they re-sign Suter (the reason we are all even discussing a Weber deal)... but struggle mightily up front..

They make a move and add JvR, Voracek, MaB, 2 1sts (or whatever) they just took a big hit on the back line, but completely revamped their offense. Right?

This whole Rick Nash thing is playing with my mind. His cap hit is absurdly ridiculous at $7.8 mil but Nash-Giroux for the next 6 years would be an unbelievable thing to watch.

The goal needs to be to get a big name d-man for the future but... depending on what we had to give up to get Nash... I could get on board I think.

I really want Weber. Bobby Ryan would be a great alternative to Nash as well.

- Flyers2821

Weber is the only humangous trade possibility I'm interested in. If he's not possible, I'd very much prefer the 'small moves and commitments to keep this team together' route.

There is no way we give up those three players and a first... combination of 2 of them and a mid level prospect is more realistic.

While I agree somewhat, if you can move JvR and get a legit forward in the deal... I would do it. Just my personal views on JvR coming into play there.

Because he wont sign long term, which in my humble opinion, means his days in Nashville are numbered. The closer he gets to being a UFA the less trade value he has. In a year you wont need to trade in order to bid for his services.

It's not the same risk because right now Weber is RFA. If he refuses to sign with the Flyers, they can move him to the next team that wants to try. Maybe you lose out a little bit, but maybe you turn the offensive package of young stars into a defensive package of young stars...

I didn't say you couldnt trade him mid-season, that was someone else. But I don't believe it will be possible after July 1 for 1 main reason. They Flyers need to have a back-up plan if you can't get Weber, and they have to execute it before someone else takes it. IMO it will either happen before the draft, or at the Draft. When that plan 2 comes, it will also most likely take the players that would be involved in the Weber deal, or the cap space. Either way, it would make it much tougher.

I almost prefer the latter over the former.

If we could add Mike Weaver, and sign a guy like Burish, Moen, etc.. Id be very happy with the lineup.

Hartnell-G-JvR/Voracek
Simmonds-Briere-Read
Schenn-Coots-JvR/Voracek
Wellwood-Talbot-Moen/Burish

Carle-Timonen
Coburn-Grossmann
Meszy-Weaver

If it was something like JVR and a small plus (i.e. a not-first-round pick) for Bobby Ryan I'd be game, but as was fervently established yesterday there's no reason Anaheim makes that trade. If he stays healthy, the guy we already have (JVR) may turn out to be the best roster addition we could make.

Bobby Ryan and Rick Nash linked. Same teams in on both, so, if one goes, the other may move soon after.

I completely agree..

I just dont think he gets traded. It doesnt make sense. Suter is gonna sign elsewhere, and then they will ink Weber long term.

Which is why you are ready to move on from him..

He is a 23 year old big forward.

Look at some of the best big forwards in the game, and see when they had their break out years.

Remember, JvR was on pace (in the early going prior to injury) for 40 goals last season.
