Come on dude. You're talking about primarily 30-40 pt players while they were in Columbus.

Also a good point. The cap hit is the only thing that makes me hesitant about pulling the trigger.
- LeachHextall27

I'm more hesitant because of that more than who we give up. Plus still have Briere's 6.5 for a couple more years. That's a lot of cash for 3 forwards.

I can live with read, bob and jvr
- bigmookalookie

I'd do it in a second if it weren't for the cap hit. That is the only caveat IMO.

Schenn has more o-skill than either Brown or Richie IMO. He should be a better offensive player. We'll see about defense.
- LeachHextall27

I hope your right. I meant that type of player - hit you in the mouth, aggressive, score 20 - 30 goals, etc.

No argument from me - let's just hold onto him.

Coots Schenn G - lock them all up.

How much will Giroux's next deal be worth? That's a lot of money tied up with two forwards. The money Nash makes is what worries me most.
- funmaster18

This is a huge consideration to me. If you're paying Nash $7.8mm, Giroux's going to want something in the neighborhood, even as a RFA.

So Kevin Stevens would've posted those ridiculous numbers in the early 90's without Super Mario?

- LeachHextall27

Congrats... you have named one player who played on one of the most gifted lines in NHL history, with one of the most prolific players of all time.

Would you like me to list more?

That said list would be infinite...

Wingers without question benefit from playing with better centers, and vice versa.

Its also not out of the question that he could have an identical year to this year.

My gut? I think he would likely be a 40,30 guy...

But at 7.8 mill no way in hell do I want that.

- jak521

Well I'm sure they would move JvR, Bob, and another player. The money is something Homer will have to work around. I'm not against adding a talent like Nash but I'm not demanding it to happen either.

Here is my problem... what happens when Coots, and Schenn, and all are ready to get paid? you have 16 mill in TWO PLAYERS.. bad idea IMO.

What if you were sitting in Columbus and a guy name Sam Carchidi wrote an article saying that if JvR were healthy and in the right position, he could put up 45+ goals, and 30 assists... would you believe it?

A writer is not by any means a talent evaluator, nor am I, but if the guy was a lock to put up 40 goals and 90 points, he would be close to doing it regardless of who he played with.

Thats like saying Sid wouldnt be putting up good stats in CB.. A 40 goal player scores 40 goals regardless of who he is with.. Nash put up 40 goals and 79 points 3 years ago... This year he posted 30 goals and 59 points... did his linemates get worse in that time?

- jak521

Really?? I love Hartsy but how many goals would he have scored last year if he played for CBJ?

Exactly, it'll be damn close to Nash's hit. I see Giroux trying to agree to a deal that works for both sides to stay in Philly, but he's going to get paid one way or the other.

Who has he played with? Voracek? Brassard? Huselius? Solid players, but nobody on the same level as Giroux or Brad Richards. Nash has also never been on a team with anything approaching offensive depth. On a tam like the Flyers or even the Rangers, teams wouldn't be able to load up to stop just Nash.

I'd have less issues in trading Read than I would in moving Simmonds, Voracek, Schenn, Couturier or other young forwards. He came in and played great for the Flyers. But at age 26, who knows if he was a flash in the pan or can repeat what he did.
- Jsaquella

I agree. Read is nice but I wouldn't be surprised if he scored 15 goals this year.

Of all our young players, he would be my first to go.

What about Pascal Dupuis then?

He was a 4th liner in Atlanta.

Im not doubting that at all.. my point is that its extremely rare (IN TODAYS NHL) to see a guy have a 30-40 point jump in statistical production.. just by playing with a great center.

Briere and Kimmo will be gone by then. Maybe Hartnell too.

That said, my personal preference is to make minor tweaks and basically stand pat. I'm not sold that this is the correct juncture to make the big bold move, unless it's for a top defenseman.
- Jsaquella

I think the number 1 priority should be a number 1 d-man too. However I think no matter what directions the Flyers take, it will still be good. I will be happy if they get a star forward. I will be happy if they get that big-time defender. I will be happy if they keep what they have now and see what happens though the season. Just as long as they dont do something stupid like signing a 3rd liner and putting someone like Read, Schenn, or Couturier in the minors.

Well, with Nash I'd say it's more of a 20 pt jump.

Not arguing with you there though, it's definitely rare. That said, I believe Nash has the talent and natural gifts to make that kind of jump.

So the guy who scored 48 points in Minny? The same one who battled through injuries and what not, made his way back to a scoring line by posting near 40 points back to back seasons.. and got his break due to numerous injuries... and didnt even crack 60 points?

Why not? James Neal just had an outstanding year playing with a legit center.

The Flyers could always go after an elite winger this off-season, and then focus on a top-pair d-man next year when Kimmo's deal is up.

IMO, the defenseman, should Carle be re-signed, is strong enough to contend for a Cup as is. Team defense is the bigger issue.
