It's going to be a battle to get him. I just don't want him in NY.

I think they would both be terrible deals.

Read alone put up numbers that were not far off either player.

- jak521

Can't count on Read duplicating that imo. I think he takes a step back personally. The "surprise" factor won't be there next season. I could be wrong, and I hope I am, but we've seen this before.

The Flyers have the best winning percentage then any other hockey club except Montreal. We have been in a position to win more then anyone else. It takes stars aligning to win the cup, and it just hasn't happened yet. As long as they keep putting themsleves in the right spot they will win it eventually. 1 way to not win is try a rebuild. Plus IMO trading a 23 YO for a 25 YO or 27 YO is really not sacrificing youth...

If he was a 19 year old rookie I would probably agree.. But in this case I disagree.. I see him putting up very similar numbers..

Rick Nash has made it to 70 points exactly 1 time in his 9 year career.

He is a 30+,30+ guy.. which is exactly what I think JvR has the potential to be (yet at nearly half the hit).

- jak521

The writer for the Columbus Dispatch says in the right situation Nash can score 40+ goals and have 90 points easily (this is a guy who watches him every night). I think those numbers would make it a no brainer if you believe that.

I agree. I'd still trade him though because I prefer Jake & Simmonds to him.

I like Schultz a great deal. However, I believe Homer & Snider want to shoot for the Cup next season (when don't they??). As we all know, they aren't patient men. I see them, at least trying, to pull off a big move that will help both in the short and long term.

People are worried about trading youth for guys like Nash and Ryan. While I would like to see what JVR eventually becomes in a Flyers uniform, I can understand Homer wanting to get someone more established. I think the important thing, not just having young guy, but having them develop at the same time. IMO JVR and Voracek still in 2-3 years before they become the top of thier games... Well Giroux is ready now, and I can understand that Homer would want to put guys that are also ready now on the ice with him.
- RooNosHockey

I'm worried about how much we have to give up for those two. If they do it, I'll be fine with it because they are good players, but I'd rather they get a stud defenseman or stay away from major moves.

Nash has about as much natural talent as any player in the game. 90 points is a legitimate projection with Giroux as his center IMO.

When a lot of teams want a guy, and are open about.. you are sure to hear things. Same thing has been happening with Weber.. doesnt mean anything till something is openly stated or goes down.

Even if something does happen or go down.. it doesnt say anything about what the org thinks of the player.. Gretzky was traded... you think his teams thought bad about him, or that they had something in line that would improve their club?

The one issue I have with that is, Nash is putting up 30 goals with absolute garbage as his linemates. I think playing with Giroux, Nash would be a 45 goal guy, if not more.

There were almost no rumors of the flyers moving both carter and Richards on the same day, so what is being talked about on the Internet really isn't a good basis for anything. It's just a bunch of people getting excited. Unless guys like Dreger or Mckenzie report it, I take it as fun speculation.

Thats sort of my point. If you have a player who is similar to Nash and Ryan production wise like JvR why would you be calling these teams to get one of those players? Everyone knows they have to give JvR up in return to get one of those guys.
- stveshdy

Okay, so lets say the JVR, Ryan, and Nash will all put up the same number of points next season... Do Nash and Ryan bring anything extra to the table that JVR doesn't? Are the Hard Hitters? Sound defensively? Leaders? Do they have a fire to win?

And the question with Nash is, if he scores like he does now without any help from his forwards, would he take the next step if he gets a center like Giroux? Forget the cap hit for a second. Does Nash on your team give you a better chance to win?

That said, my personal preference is to make minor tweaks and basically stand pat. I'm not sold that this is the correct juncture to make the big bold move, unless it's for a top defenseman.

Maybe Homer believes in his defense and thinks he needs to upgrade his forwards (who can play responsible in their own end also). The youth of the Flyers forwards showed its inexperience all season as they didnt play well in their own end.

The veterans also weren't great either.

Does anyone else think it is ludicrous to include Read in any of these trades? He is young, a powerplay and a penalty kill producer and is signed to a very cheap contract for his age and production. I think just on his contract alone, Read is one of our most untradable assets.
