There is a difference between "making him available" and "being asked about."
- Scoob

IMO I believe he's available if the right offer comes.

what's your gut feeling sir... does James don the o&B next year?
- Crimsoninja

Gut feeling is no. But I think the Flyers will regret it. He really is not all that far off from becoming like the forwards they are alllegedly trying to trade him PLUS other assets to acquire.

That's why I said yesterday that I would do JVR and marginal trade sweetener for Ryan but not break the bank.

That pretty much also describes Bobby Ryan and even Rick Nash as well in most seasons.
- bmeltzer

Ryan has managed to stay healthy though. Of course the moment he becomes a Flyer he will get injured. Same for Nash.

Right, but what is classified as breaking the bank?

I don't see Homer moving Schenn, Couts, or Voracek in any kind of deal for one of those two.

That's true for every player though.

Still, there's a difference between actively seeking to move a player and answering calls from teams interested in a player.

I pray that for ONCE this org. has a bit of patience.

I really think JvR is gonna be a true force in this league. His size combined with his speed and hands are really a rarity.

Bourdon = Sweet 'n Low?

Bill, many wanted JVR to become Giroux's "elite" winger for the next decade to build around, but you have always said that you don't think that they mesh because both require the puck on their stick to be effective.

Thus, wouldn't it make sense to deal him + a few other assets to get that guy to pair with Giroux for the foreseeable future? I think Homer may be worried that defenses and shutdown centers are going to key in on G now that he's an established superstar, and adding a player like Ryan/Nash, who could certainly put up 80-90 pts playing alongside him IMO, would certainly take some pressure off of Giroux.

We have been trying for going on 38 years.. every time we have young players with potential it seems like we end up sacrificing them for the big fish...

I want that to change!

If they move Read i will be royally pissed. Not many guys can play 20 minutes a night, in all situations, score 20 goals, add 20 helpers and make only 900k.

I wouldn't say "force". Unfortunately, he lacks the mean streak that you see in most elite players.

I'd move JVR, Read, and Bob for Nash/Ryan. We have a surplus at forward, and still need to add more grinders/defensive forwards too via FA.

While I like Read, he's not a deal breaker to me.

I disagree.. he lacks it on a consistent basis, but he definitly has some scrappiness to his game.

I remember him going at Guerin one game.. and just this playoffs being the center of about 10 different scuffles. He isnt afraid to crash the net, which is also a big part.

When I say force, I mean an annual 30+,30+ guy. I seriously believe he is capable of that.

I think they would both be terrible deals.

Read alone put up numbers that were not far off either player.

Funny, because it seems to me like they built around their youth...

Coulda traded away any of Brown, Kopitar, Doughty, Quick... but they didnt.. They added certain pieces.. but kept the core intact..

I think you're undervaluing the potential of a Nash/Ryan-G combo.

Yep, kept their young core players with potential and it worked out for them.
