i was under the impression that san jose didn't want to get rid of pavelski or couture so thornton could possibly be had. i just feel that the sabres and sharks could make a deal that helps the needs of both teams. - buffalokb
They probably don't wanna get rid of any of those guys
IMO, the prob with acquiring Thornton (or any other star center) is that it'll cost us soooo much to get him
That will leave us with other holes to fill
And considering center isn't our only need,
The cap space that a #1 takes up will prevent us from filling the other holes we have
IMO,
We need to get rid of Roy and leino
That leaves us needing a top9 LW, RW and center
And I'd like to upgrade the defense too
I think our best bet is to go after 4 guys that make around 4mil,
Than go after a big name and only be able to add cheaper guys to plug in

4 picks in the top 45, a ton of d prospects
te time to pry a #1 center from another team is the next 48 hours IMO
Just trying to point out do we really need two prodjects in the top 4 next year? - dadeadhead
I hear ya,
But it's not like we would have the cap room to add established talent to fill all the holes we have
That's why I've been suggesting guys like Stewart, Dubinsky, etc
Instead of Thornton, Shea weber, etc
We prob have room for one BIG contract...
So if that's the case,
I say spend it on Parise bc it doesn't cost us assets to get him
And the other guys we trade for won't cost us as much to acquire
te time to pry a #1 center from another team is the next 48 hours IMO
Hell I would take briere back right now - homiedclown
Let's say we do get Briere
What center do u put out there against other teams' top lines?
I think a guy like pavelski is a much better fit
Scores big goals, nice 2way game, reasonable cap hit allows us to fill other holes...
Something like that would make more sense to me

yep. the sabres front office is in probably the best position they have been in years to get that #1 center. i can't see us getting a lottery pick any time in the near future.
Anyone see the Roy for N. Foligno trade idea on twitter? I doubt it's anything more than speculation, but it is an interesting idea. Roy goes home to Ottawa, Foligno comes to play with his younger bro. Sounds pretty good. Foligno is an RFA, we can set our own contract for him, Roy has one year left, and if they like him they can hope to resign him to a hometown discount. Maybe we throw a mid rounder their way in case Roy walks after the season.

I like it.
Vanek - Center - Pominville
Leino - Hodgson - N.Foligno
Stafford - Ennis - M.Foligno
McCormick - Center - Kaleta
If a power forward wing is acquired, it looks like Gerbe could be the odd man out.
