Is the Joe in a decent part of town? I'm more nervous about going there since having a chat with a guy that was staying in the same hotel we were during my recent trip to DC. He said he doesn't leave his house at night. And he was probably only like 22-26 years old and didn't seem like the type of guy that generally would be afraid for no reason.

I go to Detroit every year for the Detroit Electronic Music Festival on Memorial Day Weekend. The Joe is right downtown, near Hart Plaza where the festival takes place. There is about as much sketch as you would expect in any large city, but overall, I felt pretty safe being downtown 3 days in a row. I was there when the Wings and Pens played in the finals both years, and there were a ton of hockey fans all over downtown. Downtown Detroit isn't that bad. A few blocks one way or another is a different story, but the auto company headquarters for the big 3 are right there, along with a casino and many hotels plus the joe, so it's generally safe in that area.

i went to a wings/leafs game there 2 years ago and had an absolute blast, the joe is in a decent spot right next to cobo center (convention center). we stayed at the greektown casino and walked to the joe and has no issues at all.

disappointed to see they do not play in C-bus.. i dont want to go to chicago or detriot to watch them play so C-bus was always my best bet..
- SabresFaninIndiana

I was looking for the same game to go to.. ill be traveling to minnesota, chicago, or colorado now...

That schedule is a b1tch for long stretches.. wow...

After leading the nhl with what 20+ back to back games the last 2 seasons.. 9 is awfully nice.

I like to be able to enjoy the city though as well. I've been to Boston, NYC (went to an Islanders game though, not a Rangers game), Columbus, and Pittsburgh. The last 2 were mostly just for the game, but I have a friend in Cleveland so that's why we like the Columbus games. I think I'm planning on March 17th in DC as my away game this year. I can't wait!

There's only 9 sets of back to backs (if I counted correctly). Black had said they requested to have fewer this year.

I also noticed they play the 'Yotes, Sharks, and Blackhawks twice.

- HonkFortheGoose

Thats good. The back to backs last year were stupid. The schedule was not enjoyable.

i was thinking the same thing. I knew they had asked for less, but I figured we'd still have more than we do. It'll be nice to see what they can do without having so many games packed into such small timeframes.

Maybe its just me but I would rather have back to back night games than just one afternoon weekend game.

Why not Chicago? I can understand Detroit. I wouldn't want to go there either. I wouldn't think Chicago would be a bad choice. Honestly, I've been wanting to go there for years to catch a game, but it never falls during a good time in the schedule.
- HonkFortheGoose

Not sure.. it really probably isn't that bad and i would bet that Detriot really isn't that bad.. I guess i always like C-bus becuase the ticket prices were about half of those two.. i may have to look at chicago and detriot though. Columbus is closer than the other two to me as well.

I like the night games better than afternoon games, but I'd rather it be spread out a bit more. I would prefer to have a game every other day for the most part than have 2 in a row and then have to wait 2 or 3 days for another game.

Half of last years schedule was back to backs. Many of them were Friday/Saturday. Which sounds good on paper but its a pain in the ass to schedule your weekend, every weekend around 2 hockey games.

I like going to Columbus. They have a really nice building, the fans aren't too bad (though apparently they hate Sabres fans), and the prices aren't bad. I also like the area around their arena.

Pens have 14 back to backs, and they have ZERO Saturday night home games.

If any of Rico's trade proposals came through, would that be considered a nuclear holocaust?

I don't remember the night before the draft to be that active. I bet stuff will go down tomorrow across the league. Most draft time trades happen on the actual first day of the draft though. I think you'll be safe while on your plane ride. I don't think you'll miss anything.

I have a feeling that if they move Sekera it won't be until after July 1st. He gets paid out a bonus that day and then his payroll is cheaper than his actual cap hit. He'd be perfect for the Islanders for that reason. He helps them hit the floor but they don't actually have to pay him that much.

Here's my thoughts on where Darcy's head is

He's trying to trade Roy for a early to middle 2nd rounder.

That leaves us with 2 firsts and 3 2nds.

Trying to package the 2 1sts in a weak draft class for Thornton, Getzlaf, Nash, Ryan
whoever he can grab that is a top line player

He then trades back into the late first round to grab someone who falls using the 3 2nds

So I def counted wrong, but hey, no big deal. They have 11 sets of back to backs. It's still half of what they've had. I'll take it either way.

Paul "Gausted" for Joe Pavelski.

Tim "Connelly", Brad "Boyce", Chris Butler for Mikko Koivu, Brent Burns and a 2nd.

Paul "Gausted" and MA Gragnani for Ryan Kesler.

Yes, these were actual proposed trades by Rico.
