Dubinsky had such a bad year after signing tht big contract that if NYR really wants it off the books, I doubt they get a ton back...
But I could be wrong there...
Maybe with the cap going up so much they decide they can keep him if they can't get a good return for him
As far as a "#1" center goes....
I just don't think it matters that much
I'd much rather have Parise than getzlaf or Stastny...
He's just plain better...
Don't u agree?
IMO, it's more important the quality of talent/production we bring in, than it being at a particular position (center)
And I just don't see us giving up all it'll take to get a top line center, if there even is one available - jdfitz77
i would love to see parise on this team, and i agree he is better than getzlaf or statsny. my train of thought is looking at the cup winners over the years, there has always been a true #1 center on the roster leading the forward groups (there are a few exceptions but for the most part its true), and I am of the mindset that you build down the middle of the ice. bringing in a top line center and having hodgson and ennis as 2/3 is a HUGE upgrade IMO over having hodge/ennis/stoll/mccormik as centers and having parise on the wing.
just my personal view

Whitey is reading off percentages from the hockeybuzz rumor chart. So... he's a STH. Who does that?

IMO this works if there is the proper coaching of these kids
sticking them out for 7 minutes a game does nothing
giving them 12 minutes a game, it could work
but you would need a foligno type player on one of the other lines (physical )
and a D man who is not afraid to drop the gloves - homiedclown
Agree on the minutes
As far as the physical play goes,
I purposely set it up so there was a guy on each line we could consider such
Dubinsky
Stewart
Foligno
Tropp, Gerbe, Kaleta
Still not as physical on the back-end as I'd like...
That's where still having 3mil in room could come in handy deadline time

they also had possibly the best dman pairing of the past 30 years in pronger and nieds, which the sabres are no where close to having.
plus, mcdonald put up a top line center season that year, with 78 pts including 51 assists. thats top line material in my book, even if it was only for one year - adubs14
I could see both Hodgson and Ennis putting up close to a ppg if it's set up like I had it
Is that good enough for ya?
I doubt we lack the offensive firepower to do it
If anything, we'd probably still be too small come playoff time
So while my changes would def get us closer,
It's prob still not enough |

Everyone agrees that we need a #1 C. No doubt. The problem is if one of those guys are available, half of the league is going to go after them.
I don't want DR to not add a Parise, Ryan, Dubinsky, hell, even Prust or Stoll just because they aren't a #1 center. If he can make the roster better, do it. If nothing else it makes the team more attractive when the next center becomes available and it shakes up what we have been watching for the last 5 years. - keptupl8
Right on !!
I want him to go big for a Center. Parise, Ryan and Nash are great players but we need the #1 Center. If he's going to mortgage the future it had better be for a #1 Center IMO. I don't want Parise, Ryan or Nash.. |

its definitely a thought, and anything thats a shakeup from what we have seen the last 4 years is good in my book.
i agree on the small side....id expect darcy to get a dman come deadline time with some size and skill.... |

His return isnt going to be some monster win for the Penguins, he isnt signed long term. Staal being a pending UFA (not RFA) lowers his value. Because of this I think keeping him and risk losing him is actually more prudent. It will be tough for the Penguins to get "fair" value trading Staal. - Gunner Staal
A team at the deadline that's looking at a making a decent playoff run will pay an arm and a leg, and will also be a team that will fully intend to sign him themselves. I think he's one of those players that is an exception to the general rule of the expiring contract because of what he brings to the ice, especially in the playoffs. Unless the Pens feel like they are shaping up for a cup run (which is not impossible, anyway) I think they'd be foolish to let him walk, and I can't see how the Pens would be able to keep him long term. |

I don't actually disagree with you
But there's no Brad Richards in free agency this year
(and I don't think he was/is a #1 anyways)
And to try n trade for an actual #1 is obviously going to be very tough
I don't consider Getzlaf or Stastny #1s
Also, bringing in a #1 kind of sets up a weird dynamic
If our 3 centers were say...
Staal, ennis, Hodgson...
It's prob Staal who goes against other teams' top lines,
But that's a situation he's trying to get out of (presumably) to be in more of an "offensive" role
There aren't too many #1s out there like Datsyuk who I can see playing vs other teams' top lines...
And if that's the case,
I certainly don't see Ennis or Hodgson going up against the top offensive talent in a "defensive" role
That wouldn't make sense to me either
That's why I looked for a "#2" type who I could see fulfilling that role |

12-Buffalo Sabres- Radek Faksa, C, Kitchener
Buffalo needs some size up front and Faska gives them that. Faksa is another player that projects to be a safe bet to be a 2/3 line centre.
21-Buffalo Sabres (from Nash)- Colton Sissons, C/RW, Kelowna
The Sabre continue to look for size up front and add one of the most competitive players in the draft. While he may never be an all star, Sissons is the type of player that you win with.

first mock ive seen with both sabres picks going to forwards, which is the right play this year.
most mocks ive seen have the sabres selecting one, if not two dmen in the first round, apparently these guys dont do their research. sabres d cupboard is stocked right now
