Agent and the way the market works. This isn't rocket science. Would you sign before you had multiple offers to drive up price? Of course not. The player wants maximum value AND a good fit. - TNGuy04
The possibility of what he could get July 1st would drive up the price already. If Nashville could possibly have this done if they wanted to pay him big $$$. Maybe Poile has already offered that, and Suter has turned it down?
I think the way Poile handled the Weber thing last off season really had a negative effect in all of this. Coupled with the fact that Nashville has no real top tier forwards, I don't think things are looking up for Nashville in regards to re-signing Suter and even Weber.
Maybe Weber stays one more season? I know if Suter leaves, and someone offer sheets Weber with a price high enough to get 4 1st round picks in return, I'd take the picks and get ready to rebuild. |

G'morning Ogie.
I am. So far so good. If I keep hearing about Luongo in Chicago, I might loose my mind though. Even more so than I already have.
How's things with you? |

I don't think Suter gets $8 mill and probably not $7 mill per on a longer deal...and it would not be an offer sheet....You probably meant offer.
All signs are Suter is going to sign a 7-10 year contract.... - Al
, 8m for Weber as an offer sheet not Suter as FA. I think Weber is better than Suter, this was in reference to Detroit losing out on Suter |

Perhaps Detroit doesn't get in on Suter at all? Maybe they go after Parise, and a different defenseman like Garrison or Wideman, and wait until next summer to make a run at Weber? |

I doubt you'll see an offer sheet for Weber. They rarely work and are hardly used. He'd be traded before it got to an offer sheet. Jmo. |

Does any awful contract even compare to DiPietro's? - InvisibleOrange
Alexei Yashin's has to come a close second. STILL on the Islander's books for three more seasons. |

People who are proposing Luongo trades, please stop. His contract is TOXIC. Yes, i get he is a better goalie than crawford, but we only have to worry about 2 more years of him, even now he is movable if need be.
Why do you think people arent falling over trying to get him, he is definitely an upgrade for more than half the NHL teams in net if they wanted to
We already dealt with Huet
Can you imagine if we get the Luongo that blackhawks fans know? Bowman would get lynched. We are sucked into that contract for the LONG haul.
Too much money, too much ice cream brain, too long. Whats the point of having a 40 win goalie if you know he will melt down at some point during the playoffs? |

Excuses!
I loathe hearing this. SB had choices..... He made the wrong ones. Are you saying SB couldn't have traded Kane at $6.3 million for a kings ransom at that time and kept Ladd ($1.5), Buff ($3), and Versteeg ($3)? Or that he HAD to re-sign hammer on SJ's terms at $3.5 mil (instead of taking 1st and 3rd round compensation picks)? If SB was patient and held out as much as possible the cap went up the following season and maybe the hawks look like this now:
Sharp-Toews-Versteeg
Ladd-Bolland-Hossa
Keith-Seabs
Campbell-Buff
+ whatever return he'd have got from trading Kane.
That's just one scenario that SB COULD have done. There are more. He HAD choices. He CHOSE to liquidate the team at bargain prices.
Face it...... He did a crap job of unloading solid talent (buff, Ladd, Versteeg, Brouwer, Campbell, niemi) for what? Just Stalberg? in two seasons not one other player he traded for has cracked the NHL. That's unacceptable!
I don't really care what your response is cause it will just be another SB spoon-fed excuse. - moylander
He COULD have done that. But there was no guarantee that Campbell would have been traded the year later. So what happens when Buff and Ladd are both free agents? Then you lose, Kane, Buff, and/or Ladd by year 2. Versteeg was never really important to me. So if the choice was to keep one of Kane, Buff, or Ladd. I keep Kane. Especially after he scored the cup clinching goal. Could you imagine trading your American born superstar after he scored the cup clinching goal?
If you want to say SB was dumb for not expecting a Hammer offersheet, then I agree with you. But trading Versteeg and Buff were 100% givens. I think they were actually planning on keeping Ladd until that Hammer offer sheet. |

Yep....And he couldn't blame chronic injuries.
I think most don't realize how long it takes to pay off bad contacts by buying them out...
That's why it is always done as a last resort. |

We've talked about the Flyers moves before and I'm still of the same opinion.
I think the Flyers made out great, the roster is very well balanced IMO.. but now that the Kings won the Cup with Carter and Richards, they end up the winner until Philly can win one with the players they got in the deals..
I give Holmgren a great deal of respect for the balls he's had over the last couple of years..
What do you think of the Nash and Philly stuff? - pri$ey

Sort of thought he was a head-case when he cried after the Kaner hat-trick game in 2009. Then in 2011 he commented to the press about TT not complimenting him, it was solidified: Bobbi Lu is a basket case. |

FWIW, Scott Morrison on AM590 in Toronto on Hockey Central said there is a rumor between Columbus and Chicago in a swap of Kane and Nash, and San Jose talking with Chicago about Hjalmarsson. |
