We should have been coming home with the gold. The one time in my life I hated Crosby. It was for like 30 seconds then I was back to being his biggest fan and best friend.

To the dismay of many, it really is one of the best storylines that he'll carry in his career... Tons of my friends were eatin crow when he scored and my jersey was planted in their face... Apparently he didn't show up earlier in the game Pffft

It is definitely an interesting dynamic when the US plays Canada as many of my favorite players of all time play for Canada. The 2002 Olympics were especially tough because those players were my favorite players when I was learning to play the game. Its tough to root against your hockey heroes you had from when you were a kid.

I just watched highlights the other day. Lemieux, yzerman, Sakic, Iginla, Kariya.... And that isn't even all of the superstars, it was kinda unfair. Lemieux letting the puck go through his legs to Kariya is such an awesome play

Just draft the best players with the best work ethic, if they are American, that is awesome.

I have tried to recreate that play screwing around on the ice and its unreal just how good it was. Ridiculous timing.

Mario's best highlights come in big moments. His North Stars play was in the SCF, the Olympic Gold Medal game to Kariya, his walking of Ray Bourque was in the ECF I believe. His last goal on a breakaway in front of the home crowd in 1997, his comeback game in 2000. The list goes on.

Scoring the series winner against the Soviets in the 1987 Canada Cup was another great moment for Lemieux.

Staal (1yr @5M, then UFA) + Niskanen (RFA) + Harrington (3yrs @$617K) + Kennedy (1yr @2M, then UFA) <--> Ryan (3yrs @ $5.1M)

Interesting thought...I'd make two small edits.

First, if I was Anaheim I would try to swap Kennedy out for another player. I'd ask for Beau Bennett (but expect to be rejected by Shero), but settle for Dustin Jeffrey. Jeffrey is (i) younger by ~1.5yrs, (ii) bigger at 6'1", 205lbs, and most importantly (iii) a RFA at the end of this season, as opposed to Kennedy who is a UFA.

Second, if I was Shero i'd ask for some sort of draft pick compensation back, contingent on Staal extending with Anaheim. Something along the lines of 2nd or 3rd round pick if Staal extends.

Final thoughts...Harrigton and Niskanen seem like a lot of D heading to Anaheim w/ none coming back, but Bobby Ryan is a serious gamer. My fist hope would be to re-sign Staal long-term, but if that can't be done I'd think long and hard about this trade.

Just look at his 1992 stats. Greates ever IMO. Wish he would have been healthy to back me up on that. Not to mention I never see a highlight of 99 getting hit in the throat with a stick or 3 guys hanging on him. Seems like it was open season on 66 and you weren't allowed to touch 99. That's a debate for another day.

Out of the three finalists I definitely think Geno wins the Hart. But if I had a vote I would say Quick deserves the Hart.

I saw an amazing stat on Quick, he LOST 9 games 1-0 this season. That is remarkable isn't it?

With that being said, Geno had an amazing season and is very deserving if he does indeed win. It is frankly amazing the kind of success the Penguins have had over the past two seasons all while missing Crosby and Malkin for long periods of time.

Good Read- I would give Staal 10years 50 million in a heartbeat.

I dont pretend to know a bunch about the draft but every year I look these guys up and read about them- So this is the guy that I'm hoping for this year-Zemgus Girgensons

Quick had a heck of a season, but I've always disliked the idea of giving the Hart to a goaltender simply because the posistion is so much different from all the others.

I mean, a goalie plays all 60 min night and night. If he has a bad 10 minutes and makes 3 or 4 mistakes, the game is generally over, unless the O finds a way to come back from 3 or 4 goals down. A Forward or Dman plays, at the very most, 35min/gm less than the goalie and doesn't effect the outcome nearly as much unless he scores every point for his team night, after night, after night.

I would literally award the Hart to a goalie every single year if the Vezina didn't exist (much the way the NFL awards the MVP trophy to a QB every year) because a G is almost without fail the most valuable member of a team because there isn't another player on the ice at any given time that can replicate his role. Its why I'm glad there is the Vezina; you can't level the playing field between skaters and the G so don't even try. Better to just create seperate categories for both groups.

Staals the ideal player to sign a deal like that. Hes had some fluky injuries last few years, but hes a big, durable, consistent player. He would make up that value easily through the life of that contract. I dont think he would do that. He probably wants 2 big contracts during his prime (just a guess by me)

Just reading Panaccio's blog....

Contains the following statement:

"What is disappointing here is that Jagr said back in January that he felt Philly was his best option, he had never been happier in his life, and that money wasn't important."

Pretty funny. Welcome to the world of JJ. What? you mean Philly isn't the greatest situation on the planet and he's never, ever been happier? Money actually might be the most important thing to a habitual gambler? Note to any flyer fans..... If his lips are moving, flush the toilet, cause he's full of sh*t.

Also, I was listening to Tim Benz the other morning and they were discussing the possibility of bringing JJ back. Benz said something like..... "I discussed it with someone over at the Pens and he said if Jagr calls, they'll pull the phone cord out of the wall." Thought that was funny.
