Interesting and I'm sure Edler us also considered to be a top 30 d-man in the league and yet, a lot of people(including Canuck Fans) say that we don't have top pairing D-Men. NJ seemed to do just fine and I'd argue that Edler/Hamhuis are better than any of their defensemen. IMO all we need is one top 4 d-man that can play well along side Edler and we have one of the better D-Core's in the league.

I would have guessed Hamhuis lower to be truthful, but I though he was a #3.

Another thing too is the voting is heavily East Coat swayed . I am not sure how many WPG PHO ST.L games they are watching, or for that fact any Western team.

Now that the awards are over I would not be surprised to see teams start trading for players rights tomorrow.

Hamhuis is definitely better than a #3. He's a top 30 d-man in this league. The guy is very underrated and quietly has very good games on a very consistent basis. He's been MG's best UFA addition by far. I wish we had a right handed version of him to play with Edler.

I'd say Edler is our most talented d-man but Hanhuis is our best.

Not to toot my own horn but I've been saying that all season. He's a #2 Dman. I'd just like to see us push for a #1 Dman to play with Edler. Someone who could lead by example and thus make Edler strive to play better, not to mention cover some of his mistakes like Hamhuis does for Bieksa. Considering this is likely, top 4 will have to do but I'd like him to be a rock-steady type (think Kronwall).

Cox is not a serious journalist. He's a plug for Leafs nation. The only guy who's comparable for douchbagery is that tool Bruce Garrioch from the Ottawa Sun that I'm convinced makes up trade scenarios while sitting on his toilet seat every morning.

Seeing we don't have a wealth of resources we would need to trade him to find his partner

I would pass on Sammy and Carlo could fill in 5/6 better than Alberts.if you can get him around the same price.

I wonder if we are signing Rome again

If he fits in well I think Carlo would be an upgrade on everyone apart from Bieksa, Hamhuis, Edler. That said he should be, as you say, a 3rd pairing defenseman. I guarantee he won't come as cheaply as Alberts. On the open market he'd net 2-3M.

My mistake I was thinking ALberts was 1.8 . I figured 2.5 for him.

Just going through the UFA list on Capgeek. I didn't realize Shane Doan was a UFA.

Some interesting names for us (apart from the obvious Suters and Parises):

- Wideman
- Doan
- Bryan Allen
- Parenteau
- Greg Zanon
- Jagr
- Huselius
- Moen
- David Moss
- Tootoo
- Ryan Carter
- Konopka
- Parros
- Cam Janssen

Not saying I'd sign all of these guys, but they could fill needs for the right price and in the right circumstances. Something to consider anyway.

Would look great with the twins. Could be a great motivational tool to sign him. Playing out the rest of his career with Hank and Danny

Damn straight he would.

If I had to pick a few from my list, assuming the prices work out I'd target the following.

Assuming we don't get either Garrison or Shultz.
Defense (2 of):

- Wideman
- Bryan Allen
- Greg Zanon
- Matt Carkner

Forwards (2 of):

- Doan
- Parenteau
- Jagr
- Huselius
- Moen
- David Moss
- Tootoo
- Ryan Carter
- Konopka
- Parros
- Cam Janssen

EDIT: Man I'm bored. Somebody trade/sign someone soon...

Agreed. Always shake my head when I hear that Edler doesn't have top-pairing potential. Half the league would have him in their top pair, and he would perform even better, as he would likely have a top-pairing partner.

Still hope Gillis takes a look at Wideman. I like Garrison too, but as someone already pointed out, even though he can play the right side, I'm sure it's not his natural position, so there's too many "maybes" with him. $4.5mill/season is too much for one good year, as well.

He'd look better on the 2nd line. I know we disagree on this, but Burrows should stay with the twins. Why mess with success?

I'm sure Doan would do well with the Sedins, but IMO, it's more important to get the 2nd line going to spread out the scoring.

I also don't think the Sedins need someone on their line to stick up for them. Apart from the Keith cheapshot, they've been fine throughout their careers. The Canucks need someone tough on the 4th line who can be a menace to the other team's stars.

A Burrows/Lappy/Hansen line would be good, but so would a Higgins/Lappy/Hansen.

It'd be greatiIf Brad Boyes could be had for a 1 year 2.5 mil contract. What happens with Alberts? I think he should go, for anything. Maybe for a late 2nd early 3rd rounder?

Why mess with success. Plus if the 2nd line gets going (or exists) it takes pressure off of the 1st line and they produce more.
Why doesn't Lappy get any love as our 3rd line centre?
