Down Goes Brown ‏@DownGoesBrown
Erik Karlsson is not the guy I would want out there in the final minute defending a lead my team had because of Erik Karlsson.

- AlexF

But in the final minute you want Murray Baron/Ryan Johnson types who will lay face first in front of shots. Neither of those guys are going to win jack when it comes to hardware.

Actually I'd prefer Lidstrom in his prime but that's neither here nor there. What ever happened to Ryan Johnson anyway?

I think the hope is that Karlsson can emulate the Lidstrom/Neidermeyer positioning and stick first d-style.

When you pay a guy $6.5m a year, you don't really want him breaking an ankle blocking shots. Leave that to the plugs.

Johnson is a UFA who didn't play last year. I'd imagine he's probably going to retire or try Europe if he can't get a deal this year.

Like you have selectively read mine in the past too . I have said a trade before of Edler Burrows for Weber a few times and you have jumped on me like a 2 dollar hooker. Can't work both ways. I even pointed out about the back issues and now you come back with the same proposals
- VANTEL

Umm ya, never once commented on your irrational purge-fest at the end of the season involving Burrows, but have it your way....trading Burrows as a 30 goal scorer making $2 mill a year who is our top penalty killer is just asinine....even for Weber....

I'm not gonna speak for Vantel but I think he meant it from the angle that Burrows has 1 year left at $2M and (rumor has it) he will be seeking fair market value on his next contract.

Even still, we lack too much of what burrows brings to the table....wouldn't trade him no matter what price tag he has....

I'd tend to agree with you but that's a loaded statement. The UFA class seems to get weaker and weaker every year since the lockout. A guy with his attributes can easily get 5M+ on the open market. Every player has a tipping point where their value to productivity becomes questionable. I'm not saying I wouldn't re-sign the guy but just talking out loud...

Jesus your a pompous ass. Again with your better than everyone. You laugh at me with a Burrows trade because he makes 2 M and scores 30 and you come back and offer up a top 15 Dman making 3.2 mil who scores 50 pts .Try thinking before spewing your better than everyone crap.

Agreed. The "trade bonanza" leading up to the draft is more of a media hype up than a point of real excitement, especially when the draft class is meant to be one of the weakest in years. July 1 should have a few fireworks but yeah after July 8 you can mail it for the summer.

Thats you're

Dude, I get that you're 100 years old and have trouble following, but at no point did I say edler straight up would get you a Weber type dman, I said that you would have to part with him in order to make that deal....as in Edler+...

You jump to conclusions too quickly and freak out too easily.....

You know nothing pal .Anyone keeping a 4.2 benchwarmer Ballard for a second pairing over Edler speaks volumes about your wealth of knowlegde .You try to act the part but your not the part . Keep on being pompous and throwing out offers like that. At least I own my trades as far fetched as they may be.Try growing up a little

Whoa whoa whoa....slow your role, at what point did I ever say Ballard would outperform edler? Never said it. You have to give something to get something that's why you move edler over Ballard. I just think Ballard can offer more than what he has been given credit for....

It feels like you pulled a vantel and selectively read my post. I did mention how unlikely it would be to trade for weber. My point is simply that we need a stud number 1 dman not another player to slot in at 4/5 when we have a guy like Ballard already.....

- chompsey

It is poor business to continue using a failing asset simply because you paid for it. Accept your mistake and move on. You may not have said it, but suggesting to trade Edler and keep Ballard says you think Ballard can perform in the same role as well as Edler, I don't buy it. Let's say we traded Edler, Burrows, Tanev and a 1st for Weber and then re-signed him to a 7 year $50 million contract. Our top six would be what?

Hamhuis Weber
Ballard Bieksa

I don't know about you, but that scares the sh!t out of me.

I 'll drop the insulting part of our conversation and ask you a hockey question .I won't insult your answe either.

Today you said Garrison is a lateral move over Ballard.Garrison had 13 goals from the point this year . In the past we have has Samuelsson Raymond Booth Kesler Burrows and countless other looking for someone who can hit a bomb with accuracy from the blueline on PP .On a team who has struggled with that shot from the blueline, how is that a lateral move with Ballard. He has a bigger reach and is bigger .His physical game was just getting started in the playoffs. He also recorded a fair amount of assists that shows me he can also move the puck. I don't see that as a lateral move at all. As you know Ballard has never won too many over in his stay here. I don't care if it because of AV or not .To have a #7 Dman at 4.2 mil is nuts. If he does find a regular spot on our team then we will be out again in round 1.

Yup

Bringing in Garrison and moving Ballard out you could have

Garrison Weber
Hamuis Bieksa
Sauve MAG

Bottom pairing 8 -10 min a night until they learn.

RT @halfordpht: For you Canucks fans out there, Dan Hamhuis finished 10th in Norris voting with 21 points, 19 back of 9th place Kris Letang.

Interesting and I'm sure Edler us also considered to be a top 30 d-man in the league and yet, a lot of people(including Canuck Fans) say that we don't have top pairing D-Men. NJ seemed to do just fine and I'd argue that Edler/Hamhuis are better than any of their defensemen. IMO all we need is one top 4 d-man that can play well along side Edler and we have one of the better D-Core's in the league.
