You're a joke. - laughs2907
Sorry to say, but Gagner wouldn't get you guys a top 10 pick..
I could see maybe a pick int he range of 12-20, depending on how desperate the team was for a centre and who was left in the draft at that point. |

Don't bother, Oilers fans will accept anything this guy says. Even if he is wrong. A year ago, J-bo is overrated. But now that the Oilers are rumored to be interested? He's underrated. Funny how that works. - Allstarzz

Gagner > More than 90% of the players taken #8 overall the last 14-15 seasons.
And you don't have to be sorry, because you have no idea what he would or wouldn't get us |

I'm going to make this my last comment (to the relief of most I'm sure) on the gagner thread. sigh... here goes.
some real good discussions over the past couple days, some good arguments. the one you said is correct, but not really applicable to the situation. you can use those stats in retrospect. gm's would look at a top ten pick as a great opportunity to select a potential future star. obviously it doesn't pan out all the time or even most of the time. now gagner... potential good #2 center. on most cup contending teams, he would be a great #3.... at this point. in 5 seasons as the former #6 pick, he has shown potential that I believe max's out at good #2. now a gm offered gagner for a top 10 can say... well, I have a potential number 2 for sure, or I roll the dice and potentially take a top d-man / top winger / top center. Most gm's are going to roll the dice and take a shot at a star / top of the line player. that doesn't mean that oilers should accept less than a decent return for him, but its a case of both teams potentially benifiting more from standing pat. good luck to both!.... there done... no more on that topic till at least after july 1st |

Just to add to that, you would also need to find a GM in need of a second line centre.
That's why draft picks are rated so highly, because you can choose the bes palyer at ANY position.
I was never saying that Gagne isn't as value as past top 10 picks, its just that a pick is more valueable to GMs than players.
If I were a GM I would trade all my picks for players that suit my needs in similar draft position fromt he previous year... WOuld get me good value |

You suck at being sarcastic Cloutier, you sound like an 11 year old. All of your comebacks are so lame, you never present an argument with facts, rather you just try to attack the poster for their differing opinion. It's sad what you'll do for hits, because let's face it your blogs are always mediocre at best. - ThePresident

exactly... I mean... you wouldn't be able to get a top ten for grabvo, and him and gagner are about equal in value... grobo slightly better now, gagner with a higher potential ceiling |

Good post... I was saying the same thing in the other thread... Realistically Gagner is worth an 8th, but most GMs probably wouldn't offer it because of the possibility of hitting one out of the park. I can live with most of what you said... |

Well sure, cause 5th overall comes before 3rd overall, and because everyone wants Gunnarson, Komisarek,Kadri or Schenn to allow you to move up.

Leafs fans will overvalue their players just as much as Oilers fans will overvalue their players, but, if these rumors etc. come from legitimate sources why continue to argue over who is better or worse? If said players name comes up in a rumor then you can say how bad or how good the trade is but in the end, you cant do anything about it if it happens.. so just shut up about gagner not being good enough for the 8th, if it happens were losing a proven second line center, which sets us back about a year or two depending on the development of the center that would replace him, IF that player does grow to the potential player that they should over that time
its risk/reward, gagner for the 8th makes more sense for carolina because they need to be better next season as badly as the oil do, gagner on a team with a better roster could perform way better than here in edmonton, so why not? |
