I think Carolina values Faulk as much as the Pens value Staal. Staal is clearly the best player in the trade but IMO the Canes are giving up too much youth. (and yes I know staal is only 24) It is close and could easily be tweaked. Martin does little to help the deal with way too much money going to the Canes. Maybe forget Martin and Faulk and add another pick or prospect?

two parts... helping the pens with the cap is part of the trade... and two... martin was almost a american olympian a couple years back... he could... repeat could... be a decent pick up with a fresh start. I add martin because staal and first isn't... i believe... worth sutter, faulk and first..

I don't see Carolina take on 9 mil. and only send out 3. I'm not going to pretend I know what's going on with their spending but I don't see it happening. I think Martin has negative value in this trade because of his salary, not his ability. Someone will be willing to take a chance on him for a pick or prospect. Also Faulk I just can't see going anywhere soon.

they have the cap room... well... as a pens fan... i feel the same about it as yins feel about the first. it has to be an over payment. otherwise I'd rather go for the cup with him. 1 cup is worth at least 5 years without contending for one... believe me we have been there

If your playing him right away you dont give him 3rd line minutes bro

Yak? Of course...SG is the 2nd line center...AH.SG.NY is the complete second line. What makes you think that is the 3rd?

MORE GAGNER!!!

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=634928

This is a 2007 draft do over. In this edition, Kane remains the #1 pick, Couture and Benn go 2-3 and our Sam Gagner slips to 13th. He fares better than Turris (14th from 3rd) or Hickey (4th to straight out of the first round), but gets a little smacked around (albeit somewhat fairly): "Had one great week in '11-12, otherwise still not a No. 2 center for a contender".

My opinion: The guys that moved up ahead of him (Couture, Benn, Subban, McDonagh, Perron, Shattenkirk, Simmonds, and Sutter) pretty much all deserve it. This was really the first season of offensive note for Simmonds, but he's always been a more well-rounded player. Sutter, you're making a fair trade off between offense and defense, but it's probably a smart one for a lot of contending teams. My real beef is how JVR is still hanging up there. I think he's a great player in the making, but his biggest asset is still his potential. Mostly, he's a guy with underwhelming numbers so far who excels at being a large human.
