I think he might have to just to get rid of Lou, dump him in the miniors!

even tho he might be ok in the WEST cause he wont be afarid of playing Lucic, only play him 1 time a year.

- jonathonpeddle

i agree.

but that agreement is based on a lot of if's. i think this is why any deal is being held up.

based on as many sources as ek, i believe that a deal has been worked out contingent upon a couple of factors. sorta like buying a house subject to selling yours.

i think that komi is part of the deal as long as mg is able to off load ballard.

that's an E3

i dont know it.. i dont know why you guys want more snipers anyways lol eventually all these dudes (hall, nuge, eberle, yakupov) are gonna need to get paid it will be interesting to see how that works out. trade down or take the best dman is what the oilers should do but hey just my opinion
- P-Nut

They should pick Yakupov, and when the time comes trade Hall for a soild D-Man.

just to stir the pot a little with some different topics.

be it resolved: the canucks should sign ryan smyth. close to home and the type of player the team needs (aside from him being born in the early 1900's).

good idea? offer (if any) you would make?

- RealityChecker

UFA could play with Hansen on the 3 rd and some 2 nd unit PP .I would offer 2.8 two year deal

pk is not going anywhere, i dont know how these rumours even got started , bergervins first plans were extending subban and price, subban said hes excited to learn from therrien, like i would love to see him and gomez go to the islanders for the 4th pick and a d man in return, would love to see that happen, it would be best for the islanders and the habs, in so many ways. so so many ways. habs would have 3rd and 4th pick, filip forsberg plus galeynchuk that be sick than habs would have the money for free agency as well, but for some reason subban excites bergervin i guess, i do not know why, hes costly more so than hes helpful in my honest opinion he does not fit in montreal, i think hes dirty, and undiciplined and makes horrible choices, martin is right he doesnt understand the game yet, yees hes physical yes he has scored some important goals, he has skill, but i dont see how hes going to grow in montreal, i would seriously get something nice for him right now while we still can, i just have a feeling, especially if gomez was taken off our hands, i would actually take just the 4th pick if islanders took gomez away with subban, the things we can do with that money, and those picks,

okay, let's back this up for you a little bit. gardiner had a good rookie season and is showing that he's going to be a real nice player. his rookie season was at the age of 20 and he is now 21.

you can understand how a fan (regardless of team affiliation) may say "well gardiner's good but this murray kid at 18 has the ability to surpass him. i bet that he becomes a better player in 2/3 YEARS than gardiner."

you seem to think that's totally outrageous. of course nhl players are better than prospects but the draft isn't necessarily about next season.

- RealityChecker

First off, Gardiner's rookie season was better than just "good." His skating, puck movement, on ice intelligence, character and poise for a 20/21 are incredible. Name me a couple better rookie d-man last season.

At this point, I would say that Gardiner is more of "a sure thing" than Murray ist, especially when you consider that the scouting report on Murray is basically that he's a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none type player. In other words, he's a steady two-way d-man who will put up 30-40 points.

How both these players progress over the next 2, 3, 4 years+ is anyone's guess, but based on what he seen already from Gardiner and the unknown of Murray, I be more than happy to put my money on Gardiner at the point.

Given all of the above and what I've previously stated, if the Oilers fans would be okay with drafting Murray at #1, then trading that pick for Gardiner isn't that crazy after all.

Willie Mitchell >>> Ryan Murray

The Oilers should just trade their #1 pick for Willie Mitchell

Dear Ek,

The islanders have 1 priority... 1.. it is a top pairing D-man. Please adjust your insane rumors accordingly. Saying the Isles are going hard after jokinen is absurd.

Minimal impact if any.

It still doesn't change the fact that the market for Luongo and his contract is very limited. It still doesn't change the fact that having a $5.3M back-up makes 0 sense. It still doesn't change the fact that if Schneider isn't signed by July 1st that he becomes vulnerable to offer sheets... And on, and on , and on...

Does signing Harding now make Backstrom expendable?

Ek,

I am not sure if your sources and JJ's sources overlap, or if you two talk about possible trade/FA scenarios, but JJ seems to feel that there is a possibility that if Suter does not sign with Nashville prior to July 1, Chicago may be in the running for him.

On your current Rumor Chart, you do not have Chicago listed as a possible destination for Suter. Have you not heard anything that would suggest that Suter could end up in Chicago?

It comes down to whether Edmonton thinks Gardiner is worth Yakupov

Think about it. A 18 year-old prospect who hasn't played a game yet.

Gardiner. a 22 year old prospect d-man who's already established himself as a top 4 defenseman. Then, baiting Justin Schultz to sign with them as well.

Does it really sound like a bad trade for Edmonton? Gardiner is a hell of a player, may be a top 10 d-man if the NHL one day and will definetely be going to Russia on the US Olympic team in 2014.

Then Burke has to get a package together with the 5th overall pick to get to 2.

It doesnt really sound as far out when you analyze it then it does on the surface...

- As_I_See_It

Its already a fact that if any offer sheet is thrown out at Schneider that the canucks are gonna match it no matter what. I do think that Backstrom is now expendable and might be the cheaper option(not actual salary) for a trade for some teams.

Its still early for Gardiner to be deemed worth a number 1 pick.

That would have to be Gardiner+ for 1st overall or heads would roll in edmonton. And remember everyone, it takes a hands-down overpayment to acquire the 1st overall pick by trade...In my opinion the oil will draft Yakupov and have a few diferent trades set up to try and grab Grigorenko with another top 10 pick.
