I love how the Oilers fans and many other Leafs haters out there think that Gardiner isn't worth the 1st overall pick, but possibly drafting an unproven D-man in Murray at #1 who apparently doesn't have the offensive upside that Gardiner does is okay?!?!

Furthermore, if the rumours are true, acquiring Gardiner MIGHT also give the Oilers the inside track on Schultz.

- Leafsfan9329

I think they played together too and now they are best friends and trying to figure out how they can both play in Columbus together.

if schultz is supposed to be better imagine these 2 on our d for years to come. the more i think about it fluck nail yakupov, let the oilers have him especially watching bob macs rankings last night saying the gap closed big time on yakupov, we can still get another good player with the 5th. poke some holes in your brain and just let it marinate for a bit.

hey when people point out that kessel is young and hasn't hit his prime, do you dismiss that as totally unreasonable or do you believe that players improve with age (until about 28/30)?

do you think a d-man who has played in the worlds at age 18 might get a bit better in a couple years? naaaaaah right? that's totally unreasonable.

- RealityChecker

Of course Murray is going to improve. You don't think that there weren't better d-men than (frank)in' Murray? Murray was an unknown and that was Lowe using his position to give Murray a tryout on behalf of the Oilers.

Personally, I don't think Murray should have been there and Lowe shoudn't be pulling that kind of bullsh!t for the Oilers. That was about Team Canada, not the (frank)in' Oilers!

i look at it this way if you can make a Yakupov-Gally Duo and we can finally get a decent goalie i think we're strong enough to go foward but i don't like talking about a player (schutlz) that is not on our team at the moment plain stupid
- Kuleminator

yea i mean making up trade offers with him in it is beyond retarted but there is a chance he plays for us so a man can only dream. but id rather have them both on our team than just yakupov

Problem is :

Phaneuf-Gunnar
Gardiner-Schutlz(maybe)
Schenn-JML
Holzer-Franson
Komisarek-Blacker
Percy

that's almost 2 teams full of d-man

LOL... For what?

Right now Gardiner >>> Murray, but apparently drafting Murray at #1 is okay.

So let me get this straight, Toronto is going to trade the best defensive prospect they've had in years, to Edmonton, to draft a Russian #1 overall, so Edmonton can then sign a FA kid out of college? Then Toronto can draft his boyfriend 5th?

Why doesn't Toronto hold onto Gardiner, thereby giving Schultz a reason to sign with them?

Or an I underthinking these 'hockey truths' that get spun here daily?

- pugnacious.serf

Yeah, that would be a dumb move by Toronto when you're basically insuring you get a Schultz as well as still having Gardiner and the #5 pick. You're defense will be set for years. I'm jealous the Rangers probably won't end up with him.

Just wait for Burke to bend Gillis over for Lu.

It's all a conspiracy to keep you guys from winning your first cup.

See how that works?

i dont know man, offensive defensemen with his skating and passing ability are hard to find. moving him is a tough call to make but like you said for yakupov and we keep our 5th thats a thinker for sure
- P-Nut

It's a given Yakupov got a great skill set and all scouts agree he's in a group by himself. I for one beleive, with his size, you throw him in the big boys league, he will spend more time on IR than playing. He's no Ovechkin who is a offensive threat and has the body to protect himself and even throw his body around. You can teach skill but you can't teach size. Someone like Lucic or Kronwall would tear Nail's head off when given the opportunity. Having said that, I would not even trade Gards for Nail straight up. NHL nowadays is about size and skill.

Nail will be more hurt more often than Hall, just watch it. Gally is the winning horse this year, and the smart team will do anything to pry him.

My 2 cents

And the goalie market shrinks by one. Can you say Luongo? RT @mirtle: Josh Harding re-signs with the Wild on a multiyear deal.
