I hear you.

I work 7-5, monday to friday. (frank) it was so much nicer when we were 14 and didnt have to do anything. I'm only 21 but feel ancient haha.

I'm from Winnipeg yes, had the joy of being at Pronger's last game played. At least I think it was.

- flyer_nutter

....never go to a game again

You know what though- it sucks to think about now, but in a few years, you can say "Hey...I was at Prongs' last game...." and with a positive connotation

OF COURSE

He inspired me to start playing. I taught myself over senior year and started actually getting the hang of it and learning songs over this last year.

He recently signed a 2 yr deal to stay with Djurgården which would fly in the face of the Flyers draft and be able to help quickly.

But here is this:

While my original point was that a defensive d-man is a better player with a physical game.

- flyer_nutter

If I may...

You said this:

A defensive d-man with no physical game.

My worst nightmare.

- flyer_nutter

Which made me scratch my head, as well. Nick Lidstrom, Mark Howe, Eric Desjardins, and Kimmo Timonen are four defensemen who excel(led) at stymieing opponents' offenses without being physical. Lifting sticks, intercepting passes, deflecting shots away harmlessly (a Rico specialty), and otherwise marking their man and checking him (not to be confused with bodychecking him) were all effective ways of neutralizing other teams' offense and transitioning play the other way.

Sure, an entire defensive corps made up of players not known for physicality is not "Flyers hockey" but there are a myriad of reasons why Mark Howe's number was retired this past season, most notably the above qualities I mentioned.

Wasnt he the one the ripped Bryz before the start of the season?
- flyer_nutter

Yes - and then watched helplessly as Read scored the GWG:

Perhaps the best part of the goal that won the game for the Flyers was that it was partially thanks to a defensive breakdown by Derek Morris, the Coyotes defenseman who earlier today called Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov a bunch of bad things. Karma is a female dog, man.
