Moore is a checking line player, and a role player. Wellwood is a player that plays on the PP and is a scoring line player. Moore has some physical attributes to him. Wellwood is not at all a physical player.

Ok. I want Moore, I thought Wellwood was in that same mold at this point in his career, but we have enough of that.

Team defense is as big a need as getting a defenseman.

Yeah but I heard the asking price was JVR, Voracek, Bourdon, and 2 first rounders....I'd do the deal, but without Voracek.
- flyersfan51

I would do the deal even with Voracek. Its only slightly more then we gave up for Pronger. I like all the players involved, but if we can get Weber and keep Schenn and Coots, that is awesome. Plus it also helps the cap situation. Instead of trading cap friendly coots, schenn, and read.. your getting rid of a guy that took a huge raise without producing yet, and a guy that is struggling to get signed.

And since Bourdon is not an active player, you can move one of your roster defenseman for more salary cap space and to replace part of the offense you lost. I make that deal in a heartbeat.

depends on what they do before FA. If they move some scorers, Wellwood might be a good choice. Well I always had a thing for having brothers on the same team.

Last year the team defense was awful. The trade of Richards and Carter, and Betts and Powe gone, it exposed the players that arent great defensively. But if Couts and Schenn pick up the slack, and they add 1-2 more defensive sound guys I think the team defense will be fine again.

That Voracek isn't signed yet, isn't a factor in deciding to include Voracek in the deal. What is meant by Bourdon not being an active player?

You can improve Team Defense without making a single player move.

Guys like Giroux, Hartnell and simmonds will have to be better, regardless of who they add. I have no hope of Briere playing better defensively.

That was kind of my point. All this talk about adding Weber or adding to the defense is great, but if the guys on hand don't play better two way hockey, it's not really going to matter

Absolutely... but adding a 3rd/4th liner in the mold of a guy like Talbot also does the trick.

I agree. I always thought Hartnell was a defensive liability. Giroux however suprised me. He always seemed like a defensive sound player. I think last year he got caught up being "the guy" and doing to much fancy/risky stuff to score that his defensive game was lacking. Playing with 2 guys that don't play defense didn't help him much either....

I personally wouldn't go that far. Adding a defenseman such as Weber is certainly going to make a big difference in a lot of areas. But your basic point that is has to be a team wide effort to improve defensively is definitely correct.

Exactly.. I had this talk with my team last week... a few guys were saying that Jonathon Quick is hands down the best goalie in the world... you could put him on any team and that team would be good.

I said if Quick were on the Flyers we would have lost in the 2nd round to the Devils.

We need a better team game, transitioning from offense to defense, defense to offense, supporting the puck carrier, and working back... without that it doesnt matter who is in net.

Team defense is the most important facet...

Even with Weber, the weaker defensive players are going to be exposed, albeit to a lesser extent. But he's not going to be playing 60 minutes a night. As good as he is, he can't cover 3 guys in his own end if a forward's lazy getting back.

Weber will surely make an impact, but again like i just said in my prior post.. If we had Weber this year, I still think we end up losing to the devils.. the team d and forward support was much better than ours.

I think the Flyers are in a position that they can go in any direction they want. They can try and get the big defenseman, they can stay with the defense they have and address it next year when Timonen's and Hartnells cap hits are off the books. They can keep all thier forwards, or they can spare 1-2 for a trade. I bet Homer has about 4 different senarios in his mind, and will take which ever one plays itself out first.

Exactly.. how many times did we see 3v2's or even 3v1's? You need a team wide effort..

Your right, but we are also playing with rookies- 3-4 year players. The team should be much better next year even if it stays the same.

They do have options, obviously. I think that they'll be involved with Weber if he becomes available, and that everything else is taking a back seat to that right now. They don;t want to make a move that would prevent them from fitting Weber.

We have 3 scoring lines, and our 4th line is as good and does the job as most other team's 3rd line. I dont think thats the problem.

Pavelec is pending RFA with a big $ offer from KHL. It will take $4mil\multi years to keep him in NHL. Pay or trade him...Jets only options.

- stveshdy

Ouch. For 4 million/multi years I think I let him walk. That's too much for his inconsistentcy.

Maybe they'll gain a bit of interest in Bob?
