Its amazing that they are always in it isnt it?
- Philly1980

It took the Recchi for LeClair + Desjardins trade to undo a lot of the damage from the Lindros deal... Renberg to Tampa undid that disastrous Gratton offer-sheet (would have missed out on Gagne and Williams)... and Carter/Richards might have off-set a lot of the damage from the Pronger deal.

One step forward, one step back, one step sideways, repeat.

Interested would imply, IMO, that they're going to scratch the surface on said player.

Preparing a major offer implies that they're serious, or going hard, after the discussed player.

At least that's how I see the difference between the 2.

"Interested" is a much more vague term. Does that make sense?

the Lindros deal...
- Tomahawk

That was a topic of discussion on Home Ice this morning. They were discussing how that deal laid the foundation for Colorado to win the Cup and also how not doing the deal allowed the Rangers to make moves that led to them winning the Cup.

Agreed, but it's not like he wasn't warned. He could've easily gotten his message across without crossing the line.

On one hand its fun reading what he says, but on the other hand, when you have been banned for bogus stuff in the past, you want to see someone that deserves it get it...

I thought correcting another's grammar and spelling was also against the Code of Conduct.

This week should be extremely exciting. The Flyers do have assets to go in any direction they please. Whether it's sign a big name, make a deal for a big name or move up in the draft. Let's face it, something is expected to happen.

Flyers related or NHL in general? I really cant see the Flyers making any moves before July 1st. I can see up moving up a few spots to grab Koekkoek, but that's about it.

point is no matter what they are always in the playoffs and have a shot to win there is no way we can prove if its better to make a deal than not. if the flyers were to miss the playoffs 2 + yrs in a row we would all be screaming for trades. The grass us always greener on the other side.I trust that homer is not dumb enough to put this team in any situation that would cripple it. Point is that if it doesnt work out you can get back most of what you put in by trading him again. A guy like webber would probably command the same Ransom at age 27 that he would at age 34-35.

The point isn't whether or not you can find some way to stay competitive, it's whether or not any of these earth-shattering moves actually get the team any closer to ending the Cup drought. Granted, this team has managed to stay out of mediocrity despite all these moves, but at the end of the day, we're still watching teams with far less resources and far less star power and a parade of former Flyers win the Stanley Cup year after year after year.

At some point, they need to learn that keeping what they've got together could possibly pay more dividends than making a splash each and every summer. We'd like to think they're taking steps forward, but the lack of results show otherwise.

- Tomahawk

Problem is only one team wins each year. Building either way has its risks imo and neither is guaranteed to win a Cup.
