Greene, Volchenkov, Salvador, Tallinder, Fayne. He's the 5th best defenseman on the team. Take out an injured Tallinder and throw in a rookie Larsson who gets outplayed just as often and what do you have?
Fayne as a middle pairing defenseman. It's indicative of the team's defensive corps, not necessarily that he should be deserving of that middle pair role.
But, we're not gonna see eye-to-eye on this so we might as well drop it.
On to something else, Parise's rights:
Gaunce anyone? Sounds just like him. Leader, gritty, can play low and around the goal mouth and chip in some poop goals, good size, good passing. Eh? Eh? - FLdevilsFAN
Fayne has outplayed Volchenkov of late. All we ever said was he is a solid 3/4 defensemen. He does a lot of the little things right, I'd much rather him get "beat" to the outside then to the inside. He is going to be Salvador's replacement, plain and simple. He is going to take Salvador's money, or a portion of it, next season.

Out of boredom, what would you give up for Bobby Ryan?
I doubt we get him, but Anaheim needs forwards desperately. Outside of their top line (Getzlaf, Perry, Ryan), they have Cogliano, Smith-Pelley, Koivu, and Beleskey signed through next year. If Selanne comes back, then they still need a top six player to replace that.
If a Josefson+Clarkson package was a starting point, would you do it for Ryan? - _Zippy_

It's nice to have friends that can lift bans. Just because you didn't notice me in here doesn't mean I wasn't elsewhere. - shvingter88
Yeah it is... between you and me, there's no reason to report me over and over when I did nothing wrong. It just makes you look bad.
Can we put this behind us? I like the Devils, have for a long time. No reason to be hostile with eachother over over some light-hearted poop talking during the finals.

I'm alright with that. Clarkson had a career year this past year, an anomaly. No way he reproduces it, and to be honest if you have the chance to land a player of Ryan's caliber you do it. But I doubt we have the assets to get Ryan without losing some serious depth.
Josefson, Tedenby, 1st Rounder, Clarkson, and a D prospect. I'd do it all. Problem is, JJ and Tedenby are players that are still essentially prospects. Not proven. Quantity over quality is what we'd have to aim for.
But if Parise walks to play with his 15 other friends across the league doing his "Hi, I'm Zach Parise and I'm going to play with my friends in my 'Parise Across the League NHL Tour', won't you join me in my Harlem Globetrotteresque circus show?" gimmick then we should go full on Ryan-or-bust:
