You realize he was "trolling" a ranger fan right? - bobert836
I actually didn't read anything, just saw the word troll and I felt it was my duty to respond.
I wanted to be post 100 too.
Plus, I wanted to give Todd a few hits to fill up his piggy bank. |

See what I said above.
Miller is a 1st round pick, Thomas is a 2nd round pick, a 1st is a 1st. So it's Dubi, DZ, two 1sts, and a 2nd for Kane and Bogosian.
And if it takes more, so be it. Still better than giving up all our assets to pay a 70 point player like a 90 point player. - Moshe52792
you cant look at where a player was drafted all the time though, stever bernier was drafted right before parise so we cant say bernier (1st) + tedenby (1st) +2nd round pick and expect to get back kane and bogosian
yes you guys are high on them but kane is more proven and has shown he can be a force, and bogosian is also pretty darn good, they are not going to trade both of those young players for prospects that havent played in the NHL yet, its going to take a much better deal then that |

I would like to point out that people in this thread are saying that Fayne is good. Remember back when you guys all cried about how bad he was. lol - Pomegrant
Guess I'm the only one still not on the bandwagon. Hes the next Colin White. Solid but let's defenders blow tight around him like a cone and doesn't use his size to clear the crease.
I get that people like the guy, I like him too he's a NJ Devil, its not like I hate the guy. I just dont want to see Lou overpay. I like his youth and he could be "great" but right now he's not IMO. |

He's solid, reliable, and most importantly better then anything we could get on the FA market(both play wise and $ wise). Even if he is the next Colin White it wouldn't be the worst thing, Colin was a good D for us for a while, save one or two years, and Fayne definitely isn't as slow as White was
I think the most underrated thing is that he hasn't missed a game since last year |

I just dont understand the fayne hate or love ..,. hes exactly in the middle not god, or god awful. He just plays some average hockey, goes out quietly and does whats asked of him 3-4 pairing guy (middle of the pack you could call him a 3.5 type guy*not millions foir the record* ) its not like it hurts to see him on the ice... **cough** Foster**cough** |

Exactly. At his best I would say he is a #3D and at worst a #5D. He's not slow like a Volchenkov or White and he's not very offensively gifted a la Zidlicky. He fits pretty well into a shutdown role |

I didn't hate him, but I didn't think he had top 4 potential, and I was wrong. Solid 2nd pairing guy to have. He made some great strides defensively. |

There were some talking about how terrible he is and how he needed to be benched in favor of the likes of Taormina. Those were the days. |

With Harding signed,
That leaves Gustavsson and Montoya as the only under 30 UFA goaltenders that have some potential. We will probably see Hedberg back next year. |

Montoya played really well with the Islanders this year. I would think he'd could be gotten for cheap and would be more than serviceable. |

I realize now, you probably meant fayne, but those are your exact words. - rmdevil313
My mistake. There should have been a question mark at the end of the last sentence. "Want to pay him $2.5M?" The implication is the the competition in the playoffs is of a higher caliber because it's the "best of the best" so to speak. Harrold played a decent amount in the playoffs and even played in favor of Larsson, but I don't think Harrold should be re-signed at $2.5M if at all.
There's an old saying about why a guy can burn it up in the minors then come to the NHL and not find success: "on a poop team, someone has to score". I think some of that reasoning applies to Fayne and his role in NJ and specifically among NJ's defensemen. Someone has to eat up minutes and play, minutes aren't necessarily indicative of excellent performance. One could argue Fayne played as much as he did because a.) Tallinder was out, b.) Larsson was a rookie and was benched for the playoffs more or less, and even c.) Fayne was a better option than Harrold. So who else was going to fill that middle-pair role?
My view of NJ's D isn't favorable as a unit. I realize the forwards where the ones who disappeared in the SCF, but it's my opinion that the D played above their means in the playoffs.
The D should be addressed before the forwards, unless of course Parise leaves. Then our forward depth becomes our weakness. JJ is soft for a big guy, not very durable, good at faceoffs, but is a 3rd liner at best, Tedenby wont succeed in NJ's heavy forechecking system because he has no mass with which to forecheck and is easily pushed off the puck anyway, and the guys in the minors can't necessarily be relied upon or "expected" to score if brought up because, well...in Albany, someone has to score. |

Greene, Volchenkov, Salvador, Tallinder, Fayne. He's the 5th best defenseman on the team. Take out an injured Tallinder and throw in a rookie Larsson who gets outplayed just as often and what do you have?
Fayne as a middle pairing defenseman. It's indicative of the team's defensive corps, not necessarily that he should be deserving of that middle pair role.
But, we're not gonna see eye-to-eye on this so we might as well drop it.
On to something else, Parise's rights:
Gaunce anyone? Sounds just like him. Leader, gritty, can play low and around the goal mouth and chip in some poop goals, good size, good passing. Eh? Eh? |

Out of boredom, what would you give up for Bobby Ryan?
I doubt we get him, but Anaheim needs forwards desperately. Outside of their top line (Getzlaf, Perry, Ryan), they have Cogliano, Smith-Pelley, Koivu, and Beleskey signed through next year. If Selanne comes back, then they still need a top six player to replace that.
If a Josefson+Clarkson package was a starting point, would you do it for Ryan? |
